I'm amazed how campers and caravanners are truly clairvoyant.

They can look at someone arriving on a campsite, and just by looking at the outfit that they have, they can make a sound judgement about what those other people are thinking!

If the arrivals have new, expensive stuff - then they must be snobs who are looking down at everyone else.  They could not simply be lovely people with new stuff.  Likewise, people arriving with modest kit are eaten up with jealousy, not just lovely people with modest kit.

Let's be honest, the only person who knows what you are thinking is you.  You cannot tell what sort of 'look' someone is giving you (unless of course, they gesture as well!)

In all liklihood you are assuming that they are looking at you and thinking something negative about you - so that's a problem you have with your own self-esteem isn't it?

And you couldn't possibly say a friendly 'hello' and ask them about their journey, or offer to give them a hand if you see them struggling with something - could you?

Because you already know what they're like from their outfit - or do you????

We have quite a new caravan - now 18months old and a newish car so does that make us snobs? - I think not. Anyone that knows us will confirm we are not snobs.

Yes I would love a bigger and better caravan if we could afford it but we can't and I love the one we have, but I am nosey and love looking at other peoples vans - not because I am jealous though just nosey.

We always talk to people on campsites whatever unit they have (we were tenters for 6 yrs before getting our caravan) and we are happy to help if anyone is having trouble putting a tent up (unless its pouring with rain maybe!!) but we do find that some tenters won't talk to us as they think that we think we are better than them (if you know what I mean).

Anyway I would rather be on a campsite full of snobs than one full of chavs!

Fat Bum

Edited for spelling!

Our van is 11 years old now, the newest car we have, mine, is 6 years old.  We have good jobs and could have brand new everything if we wanted to, but we don't.

Luckily the site where the van is kept is very friendly and for the most part everybody mucks in and I love going there.  Don't care what people think of us or how we are judged, I am just glad to be away in my van from the stresses of home and our jobs.  And I talk to anyone and everyone regardless of their outfit.

Going back to the original post, i cringed when i saw the caption on the Towsure brochure...i'm prone to a bit of envy myself when i look around the campsite at all the gorgeous units, but thats different to someone expecting others to feel envious because they have bought a particular model of awning (as that was what was advertised). I'm sure the majority of people wouldn't feel like that, maybe whoever came up with the caption could have worded it better, nicer to think of people admiring your new awning rather than being envious of it....... but it worked as an advert, it got peoples attention.
