Worth a trip and a check over with a damp meter if it's not too far from you.
AFAIK, Perle's were prone to leaks and damp, but most of those are now in a breakers yard. If it's got this far looking so good (albeit on the surface), it may be one of the ok ones and not a Friday afternoon build.
Tongue in cheek, no I love it and to be honest I think this might be a little pearler!!
Only trouble is it's appearance, (no hot water, two ring hob), suggests to me it's older than 91, it's an Avondale so 91AV makes sense but Avondale years I thought are 3 and 4 digits not the first two? but then they may have changed but the full serial number would give it away.
You could ask him for the full serial number but providing it is dry it's still not out the way at £800 is it?
I agree that its older than a 91 ... more like a 89 , No fixed loo plus other taltail sign's , but looks very clean apart from that burn over the cooker cover( photo 9 )and if its dry i dont thhink you can go wrong
Cannot tell you about the van but it does look a good buy.
Cannot see what you mean about bragging rights tho. I read many posts where people are saying they got a new van, to many people its a big thing to finally get to buy a brand new van so why not do a bit of bragging. Takes alot of hard work to get there. I think most are so happy they want to share the news tho rather than brag about it.
Our first van was an Avondale Pearle a 91 I think. They were starter vans when they were made so where relatively low spec for there year. Low spec also equals low weight so not totally a bad thing. Check for damp ours went arround the windows and neaded resealing If you bought I would be tempted to invest in some sealant as a precaution. One quick check for the age of the van is to look at the tow hitch it should have the year of manufacture stamped on it. Good luck
Just checked Avondale's serial number system and it was/is the 2nd and 3rd digit of number inside above the door gave the year, but this is only stated as up to 1987. I don't know if they then changed before all changed to the current VIN/CRIS system in 1992.
As said it's a starter van so is low on spec and weight

The bottom line here is that the only good van is a dry one. Like someone else said, it'd be a great idea to go and buy a damp meter. If you can find a dry van for a grand - then snap it up if its even remotely suitable for you.
A dry van for a £1000 is a good buy. A damp one isn't worth 1000 pence - it'll almost certainly cost you more to repair than it's worth.
Always remember photos can make an item look a lot better than what it actually is. Best to go and see the real thing, preferably with a damp meter in hand.
