Why not have plug in gas like EHU? I've been caravanning for over 20 years. I've measured NW rigorously when we had twin axles. We were centre fold in Caravan Life with Andy Stothert a few years ago talking about the joys of simple caravanning and yet we still lug a heavy leisure battery around with us which we don't need. Even when we are on EHU. We carry 2x6kg gas cylinders with us weighing up to 15 kgs each, when we have a fixed microwave on board which will cook most things.
Either I'm stupid or it's time to shed some of this stuff, Oh and lets leave the telly behind. I love caravanning passionately but surely we can slim down on weight and that has got to start with either investing in BP gas lite or calor lite or Camping gas and leave the battery behind.
Oh and lets leave the telly behind. We rarely take the telly with us,small radio or cd player does for us.The kids moan for a few hours about no telly but then find something else to do or read. We're relatively new to caravanning and it amazes us that people seem to make it a priority to get the telly on??.Since moving on from a tt we try to keep things to a minimum when getting away.
Horses for courses. We take every labour saving and entertainment device we can lay our hands on. It's a HOLIDAY for petes sake, not some kind of penance.
I'm with you Motley, did my Duke of Edinburgh endurance test now I holiday. Basic is ok for a weekend in summer but the rest of the time I want luxury. (and that includes the microwave, kettle and TV)
------------- Good friends are hard to find, difficult to leave and impossible to forget.
My OH would not cope without the tv, me I rarely watch it when away, I like to leave as much of the noise of daily life behind, the OH takes a portable dvd player along to, me I walk early in the morning on lovely near deserted beaches with the sun just warming up, I love the peace of it all just watching the dogs run around having a whale of a time but the OH thinks thats dull and stays in the van and watches early morning tv
Its home from home for us when we go away, I don't believe in the back to basics stuff, I go away to escape from the weekday drudgery of work, housework etc but I like my home comforts, but each to their own
Oh dear, sorry, I was being "tongue in cheek" earlier when I said I wanted more equipment to use up my 296kg payload. In a van of our size, it is obvious that we do not carry more than is absolutely necessary and as Roobee says, for us getting away in the van is for leaving home life behind us and doing things differnetly.
