We like camping with a reasonable big tent and some mod cons.Used to have a small hatch back. Now the wife has to use a motability scooter to get around so have got a larger estate so use far more petrol than before. As much as we don't like it we will have to get use to it the same as everyone. Cameron has already said it will take him to get into two terms of office to reduce taxation so that will take a while. So we will not be a lot better of with his lot and the same comments will still be said on here.

Hi Tim,
One of the reasons we sold our Discovery and twin axle caravan was the cost of fuel. Now retired we are paying and mpg was down to 15 at times at best 25 when towing.
We replaced it with a VW Golf auto tiptronic diesel and a Pennine Pullman folding camper and were getting 45mpg towing and up to 55 solo.
Unfortunately my wife is not enjoying camping due to mobility problems, so the fc is up for sale, but we agree the fc is better all round than the caravans and motorcaravans we have owned.
PS we recently changed our Golf for a new one with 6 speed DSG gearbox and that is even more frugal solo but as we are selling we have not bothered to fit a tow bar (QUOTED £800).

Currently, the motorist is the milch-cow; the excuse being CO2 emissions and global warming. But bandwagons come, and bandwagons go. Ultimately, the government will realise that the motor vehicle is not the prime cause of the problem and, recognising that other, larger countries with growing economies (e.g. China) are leaving us behind, political forces will come into play.
Even politicians are aware that killing off the goose that lays the golden egg will result in another financial black hole. Meantime, they will continue to stretch its laying power to the limit.
Bertie.

Sorry Bertie you are wrong, they know that already, but what other excuse can they use for hitting us with more and more taxes? I bet they are desperaet looking for "green" tax where they cna catch ever one and that is not just sewerage.
