Hi

Can anyone give us an idea of a suitable layout for 2 adults, 1 tall teenager (6ft and sftill growing!), a 9 yr old, a toddler and a baby???

Have looked at a few layouts, but would be interested to know what works for other folks.

Cheers Kim

We have the Bailey Ranger 550/6 i don't think the bed lengths would be any good for your 6ft son though!! if i was going to buy one now i'd get the new Ranger 540/6 it has a triple bunk and you can shut off the end to make the children's bedroom.

Also depends on what towcar you have really

Hi KimC, we have 2 teenagers (one who is 6ft 2) and a 9 year old and we have just bought a Bailey Ranger 620/6 as the front seats are 6ft 2 long so the 2 boys sleep there, 9 year old sleeps on side dinette and we sleep in the fixed bed at the back.  Same layout is also available in the shape of the Bailey Pageant Loire and Sprite Quattro FB.  Best bet would be to get yourself off to a dealers and have a good look round as I'm not sure what your budget or towcar is.  Good luck in your hunt (pic in profile)

Hi Kim C we have the Adria 612up and spent 3 weeks in France last year with 2 adults 1 20 year old 2 young teens and a baby. we found the layout good but I now have no hair left as I'm normally a single parent with 1 child. So I felt abit crowded. The Adria is a heavy van in reality needing a big 4x4 or similar to tow it.

Hi Kim,

We have a Bailey Bretange, which is a 6 birth with fixed bunks at the back, after 3 1/2 years we have just ordered a new Bailey Pageant Loire as our boys are begining to find the rear bunks a little on the small side. The Loire has a fixed bed for us, side dinette (which can be used as a bunk beds) and paralell seating at the front. We did look at the new Carolina and Ranger with the triple bunk arrangements but felt there was too little headroom on the bunks.

You need to think about if you want to be able to shut off the childrens room or if you don't mind a more open layout.

Do you want / need a big end bathroom?

Another van we spent some time looking at was the Lunar Quasar 615 which had good sized bunk beds.

All of the manufacturers have web sites where you can look at the layouts of their vans. It's worth taking the time to visit as many dealers as possible to get a feel for the different makes and layouts, and if you can manage it take the children so you get a feel for it when you're all in the van.

Good luck hunting.

Joty

The Bailey Ranger 550-6 had bunks across the full width of the van from 2002 ~ 2005. (3 front windows) making them 6'8" long. Loads of other manufacturers followed suit, then followed again around 2005 / 2006 when the bunks were shortened to fit in the vertical locker.  Made the beds 12" shorter - no good for growing teenagers.

Hiya

We have a ford galaxy 2.3 to cope with the clan. Havent really decided on a budget yet. I think that will depend on the van really. I think that a new one is out of the question and the older ones (mid/late 90's) seem heavy, or like rocking horse poo.

Going to look at Glossop tomoz to see what theyve got to offer.

Cheers kim

The Trekker twin axle as a superb 6 berth layout. Double across the front, made up from the dinette. Large double or two full size single lengthwise at the rear with sprung based metal framed bunks folding out from under these seat bases. The only reason we didn't buy this Trekker is, it's too long to store on our drive.

We had this layout in a Compass reflection 490/6 single axle It was a fabulous layout for a family, if we could get the same layout in a single axle van or twin axle of the right length to store on our drive, we'd buy one today. We don't like the three bunk layout in the Bailey six berths though, our kids find them clostrofobic. Why Bailey dont put Two beds at the rear end with a bunk each side is beyond me, they'd give owners back loads of storage space & beds big enough to take a growing teenager.
