   We are thinking of selling our motorhome and buying a Freedom caravan, as we only have a 1.4 diesel ford fusion this size of van is about the only one we can tow, does anyone have any experience of the freedom.  ps we have never towed before.

We used to have one, thats what started us off caravanning, we had it for three years and never ever had a problem with it,

Unsure of what Billy means about quality ours was solid as a rock, we had the sunseeker 4 berth 1993 I think,  in my opinion felt much less cramped than those little eriba's (being 6' probably the reason)

We used to tow with a 1.3 Suzuki Wagon R+ & a 1.3 Suzuki Soft top jeep in the summer and it was so easy to push and tow. (Much more economical than the beasts we have now)

There is a place in Staffordshire that is the main dealer for them and they are extremely helpful with all sorts of spares and advice.

The only downside is obvious less space, we had to change ours as we inherited 2 extra dogs on top of the one we had and now baby to we'd struggle on those cold winter weekends away.

I know Bordercaz also has one on here and loves hers and I'm sure she'll be along any minute!

Yes, we love our little Freedom, Piglet. He's one of the smaller pop top ones as you can see from his picture!

I usually tow him with my Xsara but I had a Honda Jazz 1.4 which handled him well, and I'll probably use the 1.4 Ibiza which i have now for some of our trips.

The main downsides are the size - or rather lack of it. Mine is nominally a 3 berth, which means there is no room for a toilet/shower. I got this layout because I didn't want to share a bed with my son.  A couple could have a 2 berth which has a bathroom.

When we got it last year we could both stand up with the roof shut, but son now gets a crick in his neck, so maybe not a good idea if you are taller - go for the Jetstream or Sunseeker which are taller instead.

If I could have afforded a new one I'd have gone for the Jetsream Twin which has two single beds.

I knew you wouldn't be to far away Caz, How come you got rid of the Jazz?

Booking my ADI part 3 test next week,

Poor Jazz was nearly 4 years old, over 98K on the clock and the gear box was beginning to whirr ominously.

It was a toss up between another Jazz and the Ibiza - the 0% finance deal on the Ibiza won.

Poor insulation made me sell mine. The head lining just pealed off in the damp.

I like the Eribas, but only the very small ones are lightweight - the Triton is as heavy as a "normal" caravan. For the money you would be looking at a very old Eriba compared to a relatively new Freedom.

The "poor insulaion" isn't a problem - it happens as the vans get older but mine is a 1996 and it's still ok. It can be replaced when it does start to go, I've seen ones that have been re-vamped with a lightweight carpet which is a good solution and not a major DIY job. A lot easier than renewing damp wooden frames and wall boarding on conventionally built caravans.

If ellroy can cope with the confinement of an Autosleeper then the size of a Freedom should pose no problems.

I visited Freedom Caravans in Stafford on saturday for some bits and bobs for mine and the man there was very helpful.

   Thanks for all the advice folks, sorry to be late with the reply as we have been down to hendra mynach in barmouth for a few days last week and only got back yesterday,  we will probably visit freedom in stafford shortly to have a look, and also get more info on eribas before we decide.

Freedom micro sport is light bright and water tight.

We went to the dealers in stafford, and they were great guys and showed us an old freedom, and said they would take it outside and put a power hose on it to show how the freedoms do not let in water.

Can you say that about any other caravan even the ones you can pay £16,0000 for now, and in a few years will let in water /????
