I need a bit of help

we are first time caravanners, though been using a VW campervan for years.

We have a 1991 Adria Optima 350B and the microswitch has gone on the cold bit of the sink mixer tap; the tap is a "Comet" made of grey plastic with the spout on the left and a seperate lever for each of the hot and cold.

Any clues as to replacing this ?

I'm pretty handy at DIY - I need to know how to get at the wretched thing and can I use a different mixer tap? (I'd like to use metal rather than flimsy plastic next time)

Thanks

We dont have the same van but we had a problem with our mixer tap and hubby got underneath the sink and changed the micro switch.

You could try some of the caravan salvage places.

We have an optima and I got my mixer taps replaced. Although I didn't do the job my self I watched him gain access through the vent on the outside. It didn't take long and from my observational position, it looked easy enough. Hope this helps.

Changing a Microswitch in a Comet Tap

Tools: Electrical screwdriver, Adjustable pliers Sometimes if your lucky this can be done without taking the tap out.

  1. Take off the tap top No.2 in diagram
  2. Undo Microswitch wires under tap assy.No.4 in diagram
  3. Leaver Microswitch up out of tap Assy.
  4. Feed new Microswitch wires down through tap assy. The wires have to be passed through a small gap in-between the tap housing and the securing nut, this can be fiddley Sometimes, it is easier to take the tap nut off and slide the wires down then put the nut back on.
  5. Reattach the wires.
  6. Push the Microswitch all the way down into the tap housing.
  7. Replace the tap top and test.

Thanyou very much to all of you.

Dave: you confirmed what I suspected - access is via the vent outside. Thanks

Michael - thanks for the info about the microswitches, and the diagram. I intend, however, to replace the wholeplasic tap with a sturdier equivalent - even if it means "adjusting the worktop to fit -   as they are 16 years old and quite worn and loose.

Lou - we are already scouring the scrappies for a "new" old one!

Overall we love the 'van; very modern for its age, all the equipment we need. We will try another year in it and trade up end of season.

Last thing, if ever you're in Cornwall try Lower Pennycrocker. It's where we store our van, and we went in the VW camper for years before that.

Fantastic views, 3 miles from Boscastle, good/basic facilities (new shower block just being finished!) and all for £12 a night2adults/van/electric hookup)

Happy Days
