Was exchanging my Bailey Pagent Imperial (2004) today for a new Avondale Argente. Caravan went in for inspection and was told there was damp coming from a small crack in back panel - estimated cost £1400 they then reduced to £700 I am in a delemare on what to do - any suggestions
How big is the crack , and is it obvious if you looked at the panel ? Have you paid any money to the dealer so far for the Avondale ? If the dealer has a good reputation try to haggle a bit more on the cost of it being repaired ( so you don't end up loosing too much money on your trade-in ) . If the dealers reputation isn't so good have it checked somewhere else for damp and see what they come up with .

You were obviously set on changing your van so if you can cope with the drop in value go ahead & enjoy your new van. The Bailey requires money to sort the problem whoever owns it. denisc
About inch long I just thought it was a scratch when we bought the van last year.
Gave the dealer £500 deposit but they say they will return it to us if we pull out of sale. The thing is they know we really want this van as they are also giving us a good deal. Will try and haggle and get another hundred out of them.
My friend bought a 2007 Avondale Argente twin axle last year and it's had it's rear panel replaced because of cracking , this didn't remedy the problem so the second time it cracked it actually got filled and painted, he's now waiting until it happens again, My point is, give the Avondale a thorough inspection first before paying any more cash ! Hope I'm not taking the shine off your new purchase but don't like to hear of dealers ripping people off !
