We are in the process of buying a new caravan, and a Bailey Pageant Bretagne was the one we wanted, untill we seen the layout of the ranger 540/6.  We liked the side bunks and side dinette at the rear, as if a seperate room to shut the kids off.

We have since paid a small £200 deposit on the Ranger and I have just recieve a email off Bailey showing the layout of the Series 7 Bretagne, and guess what, its the same layout as the Ranger 540/6.

Were gutted, because it would be perfect.  What i want to know has anyone ever paid a deposit on a caravan then cancelled it a few weeks later, can you do this, or could they make me buy the Ranger.  I am willing to lose my £200 deposit and may be go to the NEC in october and get a good deal (hopefully) on the new Bretagne.

Still dont know the weights etc. of the new 7 series yet so might be a no go anyway.  It is 7'6" wide now, so might be heavier, but thinking of delaying the Ranger untill we find out.

Any advice would be really appreciated.

I've cancelled a Bailey van before and even managed to get my deposit back! It was before they'd started making it though.

We changed our minds between two different makes but with the same dealer and they let us transfer our £500 deposit. You can but ask!

You have a 14 day cooling off period with any purchase.

If they get awkward you can just cancel, but lose your deposit, check your small print.

It is illegal under British and European law for a company to keep your deposit........end of story.

We were taught during an unfortunate period of my life when I worked for Peugeot UK that we should not mention this........sorry.

Going slightly off topic, how does this illegality work in the event of a cancelled holiday where a deposit has been paid? Are you saying that it is illegal for a caravan site or package holiday company to keep your deposit in the light of this ruling? If the answer is yes, then a large number of them are in for a bit of a rude awakening, are they not?

I was going to change my van for a Ranger 540/6 but it will be interesting to see what price is on the Bretagne. This is a far better layout. I see Adria are bringing out a triple bunk version next year (this months Caravan mag), just wonder how many other manufacturers will follow suit.

This time of year, the dealer will have no problem selling the van and will probably let you transfer the deposit to the other van. If you buy the other van elsewhere, you can probably kiss the deposit goodbye.

See our link bai;ey pageant series 7. We have a £1k deposit on a series 6 pageant provence & was due delivery in May but have put it on hold until we see series 7. Although we possibily will still go for the 6 as we want the L shaped lounge rather than paralell seating but Lowdhams are holding our deposit until we make up our mind after we see brochure/van. They have held it since 21.1.08 so I am sure they are happy with the interest!
