Hi there, i'm totally new here and hoping someone can help me, i'm clueless TBH! My OH has just started a job as a farm hand, included in the package is accommodation in an on site caravan, 2 bed static with a log cabin built surrounding it. He moved in at the weekend and i'll be joining him in about 6 weeks time and taking my horse with me and i can't WAIT It's got great potential and the layout is lovely and theres only the 2 of us plus 2 cats and soon to be a dog however the kitchen is grotty as heck (been lived in my a single man for 2 years and it shows!) and we're in dire need of a new cooker as the one in there doens't work properly SO i have several questions and thought this might be the place to get some answers
1. Where can i look for a small cooker that'll fit - needs to be bottle gas fuel
2. Am i likely to be able to have the entire kitchen ripped out and a newer one put in or are we going to have to make do with giving it a good clean and sprucing up as best we can? Again where to look?
3. The living area has the original dark wood veneer cupboards, we'd like to strip these back and paint them a different colour (something lighter as they are terribly dark) how easy is this to do.
4. How on earth does one keep a caravan warm through the winter
Any hints and tips on energy conservation or living in a confined space gratefully received, the caravan has less room than 1/2 of our downstairs space in our house so it's a significant 'downsize' to say the least but it'll be worth it for the lifestyle, living in the country, horse at home, OH no longer stuck in a factory - i can't wait to move in but it does mean caravaning holidays are probably off the agenda for a while
from what i understand of it, they are the same as a normal gas cooker apart from the size, i.e. you need to look for a 50cm wide versoin thats the easy part but you then get the burners changed over to run on lpg gas. for a brand new one you could start by looking on here http://www.clearance-comet.co.uk/cgi-bin/ncommerce3/CategoryDisplay?cgrfnbr=37941&cgmenbr=37087214&noMoreSubs=N but before hand find out about the burners getting changed over first, some bargains to be had on that site.
Go & find a large static site & see what vans they are pulling off to scrap that should sort the cooker out. Rub doors down & prime with a melamine primer ( B & Q )
Heating, again see what you can get out of a scrapper, if your on mains hookup any electric convector or fan heater will do
I spent many years in static caravans as a child, my parents twice built there own homes. Im sure they have improved at lot, but we had no problems keeping warm. You may need a hot water bottle in the bed at night and slippers as the floor is the coldest part. Make sure outside the bottom of the caravan is filled in as this really helps to stop the wind and cold getting under. Open all the windows to air it, and leave the wardrobe doors open when ever possible . I do remember that you had to get the cooker from a colour gas dealer but looking for a scrap ones a good idear.Like you we had horses and it was much better to be on site, im sure the space will not be a problem. The wood veneer may not stand stripping, but you might be able to rub it down and paint it.
off the top of my head it was a cheepo cooker from argos my MIL bought, and it came with the LPG jets, just needed the old ones unscrewing, and the new putting in
Am i being particularly dim here (quite probably) why does it need to be an LPG conversion, i'm sure we just have bog standard gas bottles
LPG burns differantly to natural gas, so needs a different fuel to air mix, so the different jets accomodate that.
a natural gas coker MAY work on LPG, buyt it wouldnt burn correctly and would be potentialy very dangerous
