Our Avante came with one of the magnetic contact type alarms fitted to the door and, whilst we always switched it on when we left the 'van, we'd stupidly never thought to flick the switch once we were in for the night - will do now, thanks!
Mind you, whilst our 14 year lab / collie cross who's now mostly deaf would probably quite happily snore through the visit of any burglar, our six year old Jack Russell Terrorist (yes, that's the word I meant!) would be ready to meet any intruder with an open mouth and much barking!!
On the security note, we've often thought about improving the security of the caravan and had looked at getting the window alarms mentioned earlier but, an expensive few months meant I kept putting off buying the ten we'd need to secure all nine windows in the 'van. Toddling round Asda the other night, I spots their £1 an item section and finds there a box of these very alarms! £1 for a pack of two, including batteries - five packs straight in the basket! Don't think they have the red, flashing light others have mentioned but, at 50p a shot, I'm not complaining. We'll fit them next time we're down at the 'van and will try to update on their effectiveness.
On your advice, Wizard, keys and the like are no longer left anywhere obvious and anything of any value is hidden away whenever we're not about - many thanks for sharing your experience.
