I have been reading through the old posts on motor movers and am begining to wonder if I can get what I want without having to go for the 4 wheel drive movers.
We have just got our first twin axel van, and are really pleased with it, but getting it back into our storage space was a real pain!
What I need to do is turn our van through 90 degrees and reverse it onto a level grass pitch, from a hardstanding road. Some previous posts on twin axle movers seem to suggest that the 2 wheel movers are no good for turning any corners? Is anyone with a twin axle van with a two wheel mover able to advise me? I really don't want to go for a 4 wheel mover unless we absolutly have to partly because of the extra cost involved but also because of the extra weight. Would be grateful for some info from those in the know.
we have this one for a single axle, service first class.ring round for prices and they will do a price match for you.soom have saved hundreds.ask wizard for the correct page with it all on.
------------- the only silly question is the one you do not ask.
Thanks for the replys. Michael I know the single mover would do what I want on a single axle van but we've just bought a twin axle and from what I've read they are not as movable as the singles. The powrwheel is top of our list if I can confirm it will do what we need. Unfortunatley there's not so much competition on prices for the twin axle movers, as far as I can see we'll probably have to pay 'list price'.
I have e-mailed Powr to see if they still do reconditioned units, and if by any chance they've got a twin axel one, as I'm sure I've read in the past that they do them if they've got any.
we've just had a motormover fitted to our twin axle. The fitter fitted them to the front tyres as the pipes at the back got in the way. We've only used it 3 times and unfortunately we haven't moved the van 90 degrees, although we'll need to do it when we go to Cornwall in August. The fitter suggested when turning the van to every so often go straight to give the back wheels chance to get back in line if you know what I mean. Me and hubby think it would be possible but maybe with abit of tooing and frooing, hopefully someone with more experience on this will come and advise you better

There is no way that a twin axle caravan with only movers on one axle can compete with one with movers on both axles.
I have got the Reich 4x4 movers on our 'van and yes it turns through 90 degrees, which is something that we have to do every time we take it out or put it away.
Price wise they are the dearest on the market, but they do what it says on the wrapping.

Our tourer days are over and we have moved on to a Hobby Motorhome
We have a carver motor mover fitted to only the front wheels on our twin axle van , it is stored in a similar manner as you describe . It will do the job but not in one fluid movement ,it is necesary to do a '3 point manouevre ' to obtain the required 90 degrees . I have seen the twin motor versions in operation they do turn tighter circles but are dearer & eat into your payload allowance . If you can afford one the reich4x4 is the one i'd choose next time
I'm in a similar position to you. I've also just purchased my first twin axle and need to turn it 180 degrees once I get it out of my drive. Because of the road layout and lack of width I can only get it turned just less than 90 degrees with the car, the rest is either by hand or by mover. My last single axle van had a powrtouch fitted and spun round no problem. I have a powrtouch two wheel drive fitted to the new van. It does turn it round the 90 odd degrees but not easily. A lot of to and fro plus a bit of shoving as well. I have contacted powrtouch and am having the mover upgraded to a four wheel drive.
My main concern (apart from cost) regarding the four wheel version was the additional weight but the new powrtouch Innovation which is due out soon is lighter than the current model. They are quoting 26kg compared to 37kg (obviously double that for 4 wheel drive)
When we had our twin axle we found it great for towing but a disaster for manouvering. Lasted 12 months before we got rid of it. The mover only crabbed it around on a 360 degree circle and it cut up the pitches. Was impossible to move by hand and evenmore difficult to put into storage. Gave up on health grounds. Didn't want a hernia!!!!
We have the Powrtouch on all four wheels of our Wyoming. It does turn but obviously not on a sixpence! It does take a little while because it seems to lock on and off different wheels to make it turn. We store ours on a hard base (not concrete but a hardcore) and it does not churn it up. We have to turn it a full 90 degrees every time and it is fine. I think it takes a bit of practice and patience, but if our 14yr old it there he will give it a push on the front corner to give it a bit of a hand!
We could not move ours any other way, and can recommend the unit highly.
I don`t have a mover but I`m sure Iread on here sometime ago that one solution is to fit the mover on the rear wheels and wind the front up as high as possible with the jockey wheel. Hope this helps.
I have a Truma mover fitted to the rear wheels of my twin. You cannot spin the caravan around like you can with a single axle. It "shuffles" around, but in a circle rather than on the spot. Bit of to and frow gets it there, and it takes alot longer to turn corners. I've found that I needed to be more precise and set the van up for the turns in advance.
Wouldn't be without it as my storage spot requires 2 x 90 degree turns.
Hope that helps.

Thanks for all the replies. I think we will be getting the 2 wheel drive version to start with and upgrade if necessary, but I think it should do what we need. Now just got to dsecide weather to wait for a reconditioned one to come up or go staright for new!
Just thought I'd say that I've just ordered a new Powrtouch motor mover for our twin axle. I did try for a reconditioned one, but they tell me there is a long waiting list for the twin axle movers and they don't get them that often. A reconditioned one would have saved us £250, but we can't really wait too long as we really need it.
Powrwheel told me 3 - 4 weeks to get one fitted if I ordered through them as they are currently doing about 120 movers a day!
However on the recomendation of our dealer I rang a local fitter direct and he is going to do it 2 weeks today, the day before we go away on our holidays! (and it's costing me £100 less than Powrwheel quoted) so all in all I'm pleased. Really looking forward to trying it out.
Thanks for all your advice, it's great getting other peoples expirences.
