We are not sure, we saw the flash and thunder at the same time and at the same time the caravan literally rocked and we mean rocked then all power was lost to the site for a while but following that we have some issues with alarm as one of the remotes refuses to work and considering its only 3 days since it was installed we didnt know if what happened had something to do with it. others camping next to us felt the same thing ! ! ! !
We were wondering the same thing on Saturday evening - perched up in the open at Eastnor Castle in the Malverns. The thunder was that loud the van floor vibrated and we had to shout to each other over the noise of the rain. Rubber tyres would have insulated us - as would the aluminium skin of the van - providing a Faraday cage (I hope) Something similar was done on TopGear a couple of years ago - when the Hamster was sat in a VW Golf and was struck with a simulated lightening strike.
Your alarm can pack up with lightning being close. Our house alarm wouldn't stop going off about 2 years back so we rang the engineer and he said it was as a result of lighning being too close it had damaged the battery and all the PIR things but we weren't actually hit. Scarry stuff though.
We were near Macclesfield at capesthorne hall, lighning was loud there!
You may well have been hit or the ground was hit near by, was once hit when working on a scaffolding bloody scarey, all it done to us, was give us a big headache and it knocked out my mobile phone as well as my brothers phone, lucky the scaffolding was earthed out to the ground, thats what saved us. if all your electrics inside the van are working then there should be know problems.
I got a shock the other week off our toaster. (My fault) Gave me a big fright. My Oh (who is a spark) says the wooden floor saved me. Cause the van isn't earthed. If it would have happened at home the board would have tripped and I wouldnt have got such a jolt.
I'll ask him the question about lightening when he phones tomoro (he's off shore) but I would imagine in a van the rubber tyres would "earth" you

Rubber tyres won`t earth out your caravan, but the four stabilizer legs on a caravan would.
hi the legs on ours are fixed to a wood floor so should ok,if fixed to the chassis then you will be earthed.if it gets bad i turn off the tv to prevent damage.
------------- the only silly question is the one you do not ask.
