If your van/model is still available then todays replacement price would be used for value. Otherwise a similar size/model/make new price. The Insurance Company should advise you if there is any doubt.

so if it was £14,000 u say £15,000 for the van then you want the contents and awning on top. so round it up to 20 grand. doesent matter wot you paid for it. its to get a van or contents back. if anything happends, god for bid.

Of course you are not thick. The insurance company should put to you the questions, so that you and they know what the insurance covers. Maybe they hope that if the question is vague, then in the event of a claim, you will have to accept a miserly offer. The new for old bit is so that the value is a replacement price today. In the bad case, they would say your van/car is 4 y o and therefore with depreciation we will offer you a lesser amount. Like 25% of what you paid.
the reason I asked this question we bought our van new in July last year and paid nearly £15000 and insured it for that amount, in march this year the daughter and son-in-law bought the same van for £12000 (used) and insured it for the said amount now wondering if we lost our vans would we both get a new van the equivalent to the model that we lost
Now then. i had a Elldis 556. at the time new i think it was 11 grand. when the ins company had to pay out, they had to pay 13 grand. cos the Elldis vans had gone up in price. has this yr, they went up another thousand pounds. As long as they can find the same van, its up to them wot they pay for it. Now cos i didnt want the same van, they had to give me cash, not the knock down price cos i was getting cash off them, just that i wanted to upgrade, and not want the same van again cos of bad memorys of wot happened to us. They do try it on. ask for the receipt of purchase and where from etc. But its wot it say`s New for old. You could have done a deal or anything. dosent matter.
PLUS get the van in your name CRIS reg. They want the doc. if not you will delay the claim. Thats one main reason you need it plus traceing it if it gets stolen. The van is in your name. just like a car reg doc.

The premium is based on the amount that you insure. However you must ensure that the amount that you insure for you could replace your caravan like-for-like. Be careful not to under insure because that can cause complications if you have to make a claim for a total loss.
we have CClub insurance, new for old.not cheap.ours is worth about £7k but if it was to be replaced it would cost them £10k+.think we are paying £320 now. over 5 years old it must be fully serviced by a dealer or a mobile fitter every year.
