Hi all

Was in a major caravan dealer earlier this week, and they were cleaning all their new and used caravans with a high power pressure washer. Have just checked in my caravan handbook, and it prohibits the use of pressure washers. I seem to remember my Bailey handbook did the same. Thankfully this caravan did not come from them!

Do they do any harm?

yes, but in bet they wasnt right up to the van with the nozel. i have used a p/washer. just to rinse the muck off. as long has you dont hit the seals, and not to close up, I cant c why not. The manual has to say dont use a p/washer, cos some folk dont know how to use them.

We use this one:

Save money with the Autowasher

We found it through the Caravan Club magazine and it's available to CC members at a discounted price.  Or, you could go to http://www.savewatersavemoney.co.uk/car/ and buy it direct.

It's pump action, easy to use and will produce a fairly powerful stream of water, a fine mist or anything in between but, not being powered, isn't strong enough to risk damage to caravan seals, etc.

We find it brilliant for washing the caravan on its seasonal pitch as the AutoWasher doesn't need power and, because you can so easily control the flow of water, none is wasted.  We filled it to its maximum (12 litres) and were able to rinse both our four berth caravan and our Land Rover Discovery, we then didn't quite fill it with some Fenwicks Caravan Cleaner and water, washed both vehicles (spraying and using a soft, window cleaning brush), and finally rinsed both using less than 12 litres again.  We reckon we could probably do it with around half what we used the first time.

I'm not usually into product []endorsement  but the combination of this washer and Fenwicks Caravan Cleaner, finished with Bobby Dazzler made our six year old 'van look good as new! [:o)][:D][:o)]  Once we were done, we just stood back and smiled!

A prominent north of England caravan dealer who has just been taken over. They were using a petrol engine pump and a powerwasher gun.

Would this invalidate water ingress warranty.

Sounds like Discovery at Darlington. They were certainly cleaning vans that way when I was there 2 or 3 weeks ago. It was quite close to the van as the guy was cleaning the roof from a ladder. No doubt he was being very careful but I was amazed knowing my handbook advised against and said it would affect the warranty.

Spot on Alinsmoggie

May be just coincidence, but the new Bailey we bough from them failed a damp test after the first year and had to have a window seal replaced.

Hi

I've seen more than one dealer using power washers over the years (but they think they're clever so can do things us stupid caravanners aren't capable of)
