hi all  , does anybody have the same desperate needs , while traveling north on the A1 . needing a toilet and rest stop . i could not decide if my caravan would find a parking space on the services. there are a lot of (little chefs) with little carparks. is there a list of caravan friendly services , with room for vans .

not really but if they can take a wagon then you will fit too! where are you heading?

from joing the a1 at wetherby you have morrisons in borobridge plus plenty of lay bys on the old road, then back on the a1 you have the first services at rainton after that there are, quernhow cafe, then leeming, then scotch corner, newton aycliffe, durham services, washington services, hope that helps

Not all service stations let you park in wagon bays. We had this last year, we had to park on the road near the petrol station bit. Not sure what would have happened if there had of been no room to park. Can't remeber which service station it was.

Also it was August and busy.

no they dont seem to like us but then again your not missing much either!! yeah the cafe at stibbington is good, there are also a lot of laybys that have cafes in too on the way back up , sorry cant help that much as its changed a lot since my last time down there was last year, but i certainly wouldnt worry about what the hell they have to sayjust because you have a caravan and arent a wagon if you fit then you park~!!!

better that than an accident for being over tired i think dont you?

We always stop at the Cheerio cafe on the A1 near the Cranwell airfield, it's a truck stop so loads of room to park.

This might be helpful to you - www.transportcafe.co.uk . gives you details of most of the transport cafes/truck stops close to motorways and on A and B roads. The 'warts-and-all' reports are sent in by HGV drivers, and include satnav directions and phone numbers. You could always phone and ask if their parking is suitable for caravans, though we've used a few over the last 4 or 5 years and never had any problems.

Hi Dave - we're from Otley too - and use the A1 to go south (not so much to go North) - and use only the bigger service areas at Blyth, Great Gonerby, and then on the M11 at Birchanger, - or pull into one of the many laybys and use our own facilities!  If you get AA route planner to calculate your route, it indicates the bigger service areas which take all types of vehicle.
