Does anyone have any recommendations for car and caravan breakdown cover?  I rang the RAC for the Arrival scheme (from Camping and caravanning Club) but thought it was quite expensive at £140.00. I only require UK cover

Is this about right or does anybody know of a good service which is cheaper??

Would appreciate any advice

Hi Mizzog,

I use AutoAid - They're £36 a year.  I've had cause to call them out too and had no difficulties. 

They only cover UK though, but (like me) thats all you need.

The Caravan Club recomend Greenflag Mayday cover. I have just taken this out at £89 for members as they will tow you to your destination and back again so your holiday isn't ruined if your car breaks down. I also found that some breakdown companies restrict the size of the caravan to be towed i.e. if over 21 foot they charge you more.

Definitely recommend mayday Ineeded them recently and I could not fault their service

I took RAC option 1 for me and the wife to have personal cover.

I did it via the website to get the online discount etc.

Option one has full UK recovery etc for £92. (cheaper if only you need to be covered)

I then phoned them up and quoted the CCC reference number (CL0028) and they added Arrival for free.

We are with Mayday, havent used them yet.

We have ended up going with Green Flag and got the price down to £56.00 for the year which was an awful lot better than RAC quoted.

We're with Green Flag, had to call them recently for problems with a new towbar when we were leaving a site ...they said they didn't do tow bars and could only take us to the nearest dealer...we were rather surprised, luckily OH managed to fix the problem and we cancelled the call out but will be looking for an alternative come renewal.
