A couple of friends of our's are travelling to Manorbier in Wales for there annual holidays and meeting up with us either along route or at our pre booked destination. Most of there route from Farnworth is different than our's we only use the same road a few miles from our destination, the A40, They are going to set off on the Friday night hoping to get at least a couple of hours of the journey out of the way before tiredness and fatigue take over. that would put them about 100 miles from home about half way, somewhere along the A483. Does any one know a layby or other parking area that allows caravans overnite parking. I know a couple of web sites that tell you info about Transport Cafe's and HGV parking but don't say if they take caravans and i always think that if you get info or advice from other caravanners who have used certain area 's then you get it from the horse's mouth so to speak.

Welshpool has a overnight truck and caravan carpark I think they charge around £5.00

As for parking in laybys we tried it a few times when we had a camper a usually found the young locals took a bee line for the van blasting horns as they pasted

one time it came close to a brawl outside the van, as they got out of the car and attached the van. Not a nice situation to be in at 3 oclock in the morning

My opinion would be find a overnight stop on a site, if not only park if there is more lorrys or vans parked in the layby

You can always find a location on the transport web pages then use either google earth or mappy etc to see a satelite view of the layby this should give you a good indication as to whether your caravan would fit

If you turn left (first exit) at the roundabout where you meet the A495 (signposted Whitchurch, Ellesmere, Whittington) about half a mile down on the left hand side is a big layby that motorhomes, caravans, trucks, sometimes use as a stop over. It's got a big grassy area protecting it from the road. No facilities though, but it is free.

The other one I was going to mention is Welshpool town centre big car park, which I think is £6 a night now, mentioned above by DLBU. This has Public Conveniences.

Information much appreciated i will pass it on, This is a wonderful site so many people always have answers, brilliant. I have looked on google earth at suitable lay by's as romany suggested but just thought i would ask to see if any one had actually stayed in them and you have or had knowledge of them. once again thank you all.
