do you think it will be o.k? it is our first van and we have seen it on ebay this is what the woman has said about the dent. honest oppinions please. 

the dent is just past the door its about 3/4 inch long but is only a surface dent i brought the van from a friend whos neighbour caught it with her bumper. 

I don't think anyone will be able to advise you without seeing the dent.  My opinion would depend on how much the van was costing, how much I was saving, what allowances/money off I'm getting against the dent.

Also, what about getting an independent inspection done?  It really depends how much you are spending though.

the van in question is up fro 3,700. and vans the same age are going for 7,000.

it has been parked up at a caravan park and left there for them to go to back to ( so used as a static)

its a 1998 swift 580 

have you got a picture of the dent,you could always put a vent cover over the dent.
