I was wondering whether anyone could help me with a small problem. I have been away this week and the water in my van tastes funny. I have rinsed it through with a sterilising fluid but it still tastes as bad. Any ideas folks, thanks in advance.
Did you sterilise before going away? It may require a couple of aquarolls full to completely flush the system through, assume you have put in a fresh filter AFTER flushing system?. I keep an empty filter housing to flush through at the start of the season then fit new filter before going away for the first trip of the new season.
some areas have a high level of chlorine in it, around scotch corner is one place i can think of and it makes the water taste foul, you can even smell it in the water there!!! perhaps it was something like that and nothing at all to do with your van at all?
Use a Brita water filter. We never drink the water from the caravan taps and always have a small container which we fill the filter. Always tastes good. We just use the taps for washing and washing up.
All good points. We were only in Towyn and no I didn't change the filter I m new to all this and the little bits I do know I have learnt from on here. I was going to get a new filter tomorrow anyway so will sort that out. The Brita water thing is a good idea though might take that on board.
A way to test Ive done is - get a clean jerry can or around 3/5 litres of container. it can be a bucket if its new.
Fill it up at home where you know the water tastes nice. Then pop your whale into this and take the water from this source. Taste the water from the van taps - if it tasted not nice then you know its been tainted from the van piping. On site, just take some water from the site tap and try it.. if it tastes ok then, then it must taste ok when its from the van.
This is often just either sterilising which hasnt flushed away or nasties which need a bit more. There is some chemicals on the market for this purpose but Milton is very good. However a lot of people put far too much milton in - you dont need a lot.
One funny story is when we got our latest new, we went away and my cup of tea tasted all plasticky and limey.. descaled the kettle (which looked clean), flushed the whole system including hog and everything twice.. but it wouldnt go away.
Then the wife suggested the tea bags may have gone off as I had left the packet open in the last van - not in a sealed container....
She was right.. it was the bloody tea bags..!! Got some new ones and it tasted great!
Hi Alison it wasnt you or anything you used. I think we stopped on same site, water was really, erm, well, strange tasting! people we spoke to said they stayed there before and water didnt taste like that previously!
