Hi we are looking to buy a 6 berth caravan next year. I have 3 kids 9,11,12 the oldest two not being kid size.  I like the idea of having separate areas at night as hubby is a night owl.  Have looked at various models with fixed bunks but some dont have great height room and i can see it not being easy for the youngest very shortly.  I dont think the weight of the van is an issue as the X5 pulls about anything.  Suggestions/recommendations gladly appreciated.

A neighbour of mine has just bought the Bailey Ranger 540/6 which seems to fit the bill just fine. More upmarket is the Pageant Bretagne. I am not a Bailey fan, but this is a very inovative design and one that will be hugely popular I shouldn't wonder!

Havea look at the swift range, they have various layouts and bed set ups. Also have you considered a large awning with bedrooms? That allows mum and dad to have a bit of privacy too.

Have a look on here you can see what is available in the layout that you want.

We've got an 1991 Avondale Leda Malvern 6 berth that has pull out bunks which are suitable for up to 6 footers, i think!  This has a door that closes this bedroom off at night.  Then we have a smaller double bed at the front.  It's a single axle which suits us.  For me this is my dream caravan though after having been away in a 2 berth caravan i miss the huge kitchen lol!

If you're thinking of buying next year, I suggest you go to a major caravan show such as the NEC in Birmingham & view the whole market under one roof. There are so many layouts out there & it wouldn't be easy to find one tat ticked all the boxes straight away.

We used to have a Compass Reflection 490/6. It was a single axle van with a long double at the rear with steel framed sprung base bunks coming out from under each side. This gave our 4 kids a lovely bedroom for 12 seasons until we had to change it while it was still worth something. Trouble is, we couldn't find a layout in a single axle van to match it & we can't get a twin axle on the drive.

The only twin axle with the same bunks/bed layout is the Trekker twin axle. It's a lovely van but, too long for us.

If you can get to a big show, I'd go for that. It'll be a nice day out & you'll be able to check all the beds for comfort & space for the kids. I'm led to believe you'll get a bargain at the shows but, to be honest, I'm not so sure you do. At least the whole caravan world choice is there to be compared.
