We used to be able to make do with just one annex on our awning, but now our kids need to sleep in seperate annexes. Our awning is a very nice Dorema Sirocco (size5) with a tall annex. Unfortunately the Sirocco will only take one annex, something we didn't think of when buying. So,

1/ do we make do with one annex and a tent inside the awning - not keen as I've got used to the space in the awning without tents in it!

2/ do we try and find an awning that fits our existing annex, and buy a second annex - a bit of a minefield this 'cos it looks like there's no standard size for either awning or annex!

3/ do we find an awning repair firm that can adapt the fixed wall of our awning to take an extra annex?

I'd love to know what you all think.

Cheers,

Connie

mmm yes. was the awning expensive? on here - I believe under trailer tents is a company that mend awnings etc, and they could do it for you ie, cut the end out but it could be a couple of hundred quid, as i am not up in awning prices and quality I can't say if yours would be worth it or not, weigh up the cost first.

i have been thinking about this problem,we take our grandson who sleeps in the van.when his mum and dad come for a few nights his mum sleeps in the annexe and his dad in a tent inside the awning.this is no trouble.my thought was to find a way of making a sliding curtain inside the awning, thereby making a sleeping quarter just wide enough to take a double blow up bed.watch this space still working on it.

I use and an inner tent that is suspended from the poles and veranda pole, it sits just in front of the annex at night but with enough room to get to the door.  During the day I just lift it up and tie it to the veranda pole.  Don't even bother to unmake the bed, the lilo and sleeping bag just drop back into place when you lower it.

Hi

You could consider a pup tent to put alongside your caravan/awning, instead of inside it.  I think a size 5 awning is quite small isn't it?

The trouble with making a big investment, is that before you know it, the kids don't want to come caravanning any more - and you have a shed full of equipment that has only been used for a fortnight or two since you bought it !!!

If you don't feel comfortable with a pup tent, then I think I would go for an inner bedroom hung in the main awning and perhaps unhooked and chucked into the annex on top of the other bedding during the day.

Thanks for all your replies, they've given me pause for thought. The Sirocco awning is bottom of range by Dorema, all the others have two zip out sides. Size 5 is very small, as it fits a 12 foot 'van. We're possibly thinking of changing the'van to a 14/15' one, so I think the best idea so far is the extra tent in awning until we've made up our mind what to do.
