I bought a solar powered trickle charger and measured the output voltage. It measured 19V. Is this too high for a battery charger? I thought they were usually around 15V.

If you measure just across the ouput without a load attached it will always read higher.  Some solar panels come with a regulator to prevent overcharging.

Try hooking it up to you battery and measure the voltage then.

If it's a small low watt panel it should be no problem .
If your panel watt output is 10% or more of the batterys output you need a charge controller.

That's fine , just fit and forget .
I have a 5W panel and 2 x 1.5W panels in my caravan charging the battery all the time it's in storage .

i use a 3 foot high 15w exide solar panel charger with cigar plug and socket direct to battery quick release clamps in the battery box...works on rallies no need to change the 110 amph battery last weekend sun was out ..nice ..
