For those of us who have not yet entered the sky tv caravan era are there any good guides around for what kit I need to buy or better still budget buy? I ask this sitting looking looking at a redundant (working) sky box in the study.

Once I just set the disk on the ground, judged the right direction by the sun, went to find the compass and saw that it had already locked on by accident. Is that a record!
Ha - last time I pointed it to the dead tree on the horizon & it was locked. I had been on the site before tho so thats cheating!
If I use my zone 2, 60cm dish instead of my Zone1, 43cm dish, I can usually get 100% signal quality and 100% signal strength on the Digibox. I've a photo of the screen but dont know how to upload !
I get a much better signal when I don't have a satellite finder in the line, but never as much as 100%. I'll measure the dish next time I play with the dish.
Just got my Dish, Tripod, Wire and LNB from Ebay, all came in none package for £35 so was happy with it. Took me about 60 minutes to put it all together including the connectors on the Coax. Put it up outside hooked into skybox and within 2 minutes was sat watching TV. Test will be when im on site I guess.
The earlier ocmments about using a Spirit Level, is this to get the Tripod Flat or the Dish?
had trouble with mine this time, in heavy rain had to keep wiping the dish and lnb because of distortion on the picture.once wiped the picture was ok.is this a normal problem?

------------- the only silly question is the one you do not ask.
Only really torrential rain will affect it - ive never lost a signal with rain ever and ive had some downpours. Think about your dish at home and how often it goes off. As long as youve got a good signal then it can afford to lose some quality and keep the picture.

any ideas on the rain problem guys? read somewhere you can set up inside the awning and it should work.
Hi Michael,
We've just returned from trip at the weekend (Bennone beach NI ) can confirm dish setup in awning on table to protect from wind and rain works fine.
Using the satalite system out of lidels works fine and it all comes in a tidy box with everything you need
thanks guys, useful info.i can confirm that when the LNB got a few large drops of water on the face of it the picture picselated (spelling?) rather badly and when wiped off the picture returned to a perfect one.i will try the in the awning thing too.

Wow, that's interesting that it works in the awning, I always thought that was impossible.
Anybody else confirm use in the awning, does it degrade the quality?
I used to use my Arcon Sweety dish inside the van when I had a static. It stood on the step by the "second door" as this was the right direction to point. Worked fine even when the (glass) door was closed.

yes read it in a caravan magazine a few months ago when collating all the bits and bats for sky box.make some sense in that radio waves get through.this contradicts all i have read, saying any obstuction ie.hills or trees will spoil the signals to the dish.still learning as its all new to me.
