Hi everyone...

I am completely new to this, and have never towed anything before. I am therefore thinking of starting small....

I would like something like this http://rover.ebay.com/rover/1/710-5232-2978-1/1?AID=9479574&PID=1428744&mpre=http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/Caravan_W0QQitemZ220252848703QQcmdZViewItem?hash=item220252848703&_trkparms=72%3A12%7C39%3A1%7C65%3A12&_trksid=p3286.c0.m14   but newer, but I have no idea what to search for, what they are called or where to begin... any ideas please? I wouldnt mind seconhand, but I would like something in good condition.

THanks in advance.

Hi, I've had a variety of vans and tents, some small.
I wouldnt criticise small vans at all theres a place for us all and every variant but............

Small vans do get claustrophobic. Whatever space you have you will fill. If your budget/car/circumstances allow I personally would go a little bigger.

If you couldnt sit in your living room for a week which room would you rather use? (providing youre thinking average size house) the smallest or a mid size one.

If living somewhere smaller than my house bothered me I'd get rid of the tourer and go for a static.  Any van is a compromise on space - thats why people use awnings.

When I was younger ( and single ) I use to go to wild mountainous places with just a backpacking tent.  They were places where only people who travelled by foot ever got to see.

You need to take a look at freedom caravans etc. and see what you can live with.

Try this site and download their lists and details.

It was only a cross between an example and an analogy

Have a look at Eriba caravans.  You’ll find lots of information at http://www.eribaforum.co.uk/ where there are lots of Eriba enthusiasts.  More information at http://www.eriba-amiga.co.uk/index.html; there’s even a ‘For Sale’ section.

We have a Puck which can be towed by a small car like a Ford Fiesta or Nissan Micro and it's small enough to be secured in a garage.  It carries everything we need and we are not small people.

The caravan you are looking at on ebay is a Freedom Microlite. We used to have one, ours was a 2+1 berth, with oven, hob and sink. It didn't have a fridge so we used an electric one. We had it for a couple of years and really liked it. Ours was newer that the one on ebay. Freedom Caravans up in Stafford still sell them from new, they are also useful for parts!

Freedom Jetstream or Sunseekers are a little bit bigger again, and don't have the pop up roof.

Eribas tend to be a little bit more expensive than the Freedoms, as they are German and are very well built.

Good luck with your search.

I have one for sale on the Free Ads on here. It is like the one Gemma 1675 used to have, many years newer than the one you looked at on E-bay. To be honest the reason we are selling is because we found it too small. For just me on my own it is perfect, but with a teenage son in tow who wants the TV, X Box etc peranently set up it was just too small.

If you are interested you can E-mail me: borderdrivingataol.com (replace at with at )

My first Van was a small one. I thought, just my wife and self, no problems, we used it once as a couple and once on my own. It had an awning which doubles the size but I knew it was too small. I now have a Burstner Ventana with an island bed. Small or Big?......I would go for the biggest, providing the car will tow it. Even on W/E breaks you cannot beat the comfort of a bigger Van.

Easy so say for me, I do not have the traffic problems that exist in the UK.  If I am slow, I do not get two fingers from overtaking cars.
