Hi, I am another newbie to caravanning, having bought our first caravan a few months ago. Had 2 trips so far and am loving it!!

Just having a problem with our alarm. The caravan is just under 3 years old. Last time we were away I couldn't get the alarm to 'arm' and the sensor light inside was not lighting up. When we came home it started working again. As we are intending on going away at the end of the week OH decided to investigate! He unscrewed the alarm and turned it off by the On/Off switch. When he turned it back on the alarm went off and couldn't get it to stop unless we turned it off ( tried with key fob but didn't work) After leaving it whilst having a cup of tea, turned it back on, the alarm didn't sound but now it is not working at all! I understand the alarm battery is charged from the leisure battery, we have had this on charge and connected for 24hours now but still nothing. Could the alarm battery need replacing? If so is this a job that we can do or is it a job for a professional?

I would try fitting a new alarm battery, it is not difficult.  You probably need to open the alarm box to find it.  If the main battery runs down the alarm one will too, and they do not last for ever.

Have you also checked the battery in the key fob?

Thanks everyone, especially Jusy. Went on to Sargent alarm website and found telephone No. so rang them and they were very helpful, and my alarm is now working!

Because the alarm battery had been worn down, once it had been recharged it had to be reset by pushing the button behind the PIR sensor.

Thanks again everyone for your ideas.
