Hi all, I have just defected from a trailer tent to a 1992 Abi Monza 450s and need some advice on stabilisers (my apologies, I am clueless about this). The Monza doesn't currently have one fitted. I drive a Zafira which has a swan neck detachable tow bar.
Firstly, am I right in thinking that the standard 'bar' stabiliser is no good for a swan neck detachable tow bar? Also, I've been looking at the Al-Ko 'hitch' style stabiliser - are these compatible with my tow bar/easy to fit and worth the money? I've seen a few of the Al-Ko ones and they seem to do the job really well. Thanks in advance for any help you can offer!
AFAIK for a blade type you need a flanged towbracket to bolt the car bit onto from memory the alko is a couple of bolts to fit, remove old unit and fit new un using new bolts, washers and nuts of course. also make sure your ball is spotless clean with emery cloth and spray with brake cleaner
it is the alko 1300 that is on my van, retrofit by prev owner. van is steady as a rock wgen on a steep downhill and 3 atrics passed me nose to tail you felt the thing working
Just switched from blade to Al-ko 3004, combined hitch, stabiliser and lock. Very good and much easier to use. Felt very stable when towing. Only downside is the cost, around £225 for the Al-ko. Lots of second-hand blades around, including mine! for only a few pounds.

Yes the Alko is the best. I've been trying to sell an Alko 3004 ( new ) for ages but have only had time wasters. I want £90 and it's all complete. I am at Willowbank, Southport on Aug 2nd for a week. If you ( or anyone else ) want it post here and we could meet. John.
Thanks to all of you for your help! All of my questions answered perfectly. Given that so many seem to prefer the stability of the Al-Ko over the blade I've gone for the 1300 in the end - typically before I saw your post The Stabiliser! I'm certain someone will bite your hand off at £90 though. Thanks again!

John we might be interesred in buying your ALKO 3004. Is it the triple pack?
I thought £90 was a fair price, the lock is £78 and the little ball about £4 so the stabiliser by itself is about half price. the triple pack is £260. You can you email me at jonnymur at hotmail.co.uk
