I normally use a caravan cover which keeps the van nice and clean. However due to pure laziness we leave the cover off during the summer as it makes it quicker to collect and return the van from storage. Problem is, the van is stored partly under some trees which create a bit of a mess at the back of the roof.

I've used one of these brushes that attach to the hose fairly well, however some bits were quite stubborn and I suspect that I may need to use something like Fenwicks at some point. How do you do this without getting on the roof - or is it pos to kneel on the roof of a caravan?

We always use Fenwicks Caravan cleaner and if you leave it to work for a couple of mins as per the instructions it comes off quite well.  I stand on a high pair of steps with a soft brush and hose.

There is no way I would stand on my caravan roof ....

I think I've posted this before, but we had a couple of traveller (not Pikeys) families on site for about 3 weeks.  They both had brand new vans, lovely white upholstery, white rugs, lots of glass and mirrors.  The wives used to clean the outside and inside of their vans every day.  They made the most of the washing and drying machines and washed all the curtains, bedding and rugs. When they got to the roof of the van, they used long handled brushes, lowered the vans down at one end, raised the other end up and gave them a good washing, then they reversed the process and washed the other end.  They were so houseproud, I felt inadequate !!

Ladders and one of them flow through brushers, and lots of hot water.

Bird poo is a nightmare, and then remember to wash all round the rest of the van or you get them bloooomin black streaks

When you've got the roof clean try putting a coat of WD40 on. When you come to clean it next time should be a lot easier.

My neighbour told me this tip he's been doing it for years.

Pity you're parked under trees , couldn't you find a nother plot?

We are lucky to be able to park on our own land adjacent to the bungalow with no trees.

 I apply dilute fenwicks using a pump up pressure sprayer with a "wand", followed by gentle agitation with a soft brush. The one I use is actually an extending dusting come cobweb remover as seen in those "things you never knew you needed until you saw it in here" books that come in the newspapers! Followed by a rinse with the hose, job done. All this can be done from a stepladder, though I now use a folding stepladder/trestle/ladder purchased from the afore mentioned source. Seemples.
