I don't know if any one can help with this problem but the knob that you turn to open the blade on our thetford cassette toilet (electric flush, bench type) is really stiff to turn. It is the knob that you press down to operate the electric pump & twist to empty the bowl. I have changed the blade seal on the cassette & lubricated it with thetfords seal lubricant but this hasn't helped at all.

I always find that the Thetford Web Site is a great source of information.  You will get full details, diagrams, parts info etc for your model which can all be printed out. Makes good reading in the Van loo on a wet day which looks like we will be getting when we head south this week!

I also found that contacting them direct either by e-mail, letter or phone also brought excellent assistance and instructions re the probable cause of any problem and how to sort it out.

We had the self same problem this year with ours and OH overcame it by sliding the cassette out from the side of the van and giving the blade a good clean with soapy water and a nail brush then he lubricated it with Vaseline, after putting it back he gave the flush knob a couple of pumps and then twisted it whilst depressing it and hey ho, a useable loo!  I meanwhile was dreading middle of the night trips to the toilet block as they haven't made a bucket big enough for my backside yet

Vaseline is not recommended as it is petroleum based and can damage the seals.  Olive oil is a good substitute for the proprietary lubricant.

It might be worth checking the mechanism using a small mirror as this can sometimes become bound with toilet paper.
