Following our disapointment earlier today (see previous post) I have spotted another van at Cranham Caravans in Essex. I know nothing about this dealer, does anyone have experience of them, good or bad ? We have only ever looked at Homesteads vans before as they came highly recommended.

I can't comment specifically but I do know that they have been around for many years trading under that name and you can't do that if you're no good.

Check out if they have any manufacturer franchises. I think they may sell Geist Caravans which have a good name.

Other than that, you can tell by the premises etc whether a place is a fly by night outfit or not.

In and around your area also check out M & M Leisure at Mildenhall and Haverhill. I bought my current caravan new from the Mildenhall site and the service was nothing short of superb and I got an excellent trade-in offer for my old 'van.

I was born there (not the caravan place) and they have been there for as long as I can remember. I must admit, I think they are a bit on the pricey side and felt them to be a bit miserable if you are looking at the bottom price range. I know lots of people who have bought from them though.

I find Cranham very pricy and not altogether helpful at all, I would not recommend them.

We bought a brand new caravan 18 months ago from Cranham and its taken 14 months for them to sort out continual problems we have had every time we have gone away. The main problems were with the fridge and hot water not working on either gas or electric which, for the electric problem, it took them a year to believe the fault existed. The service people were always very friendly and polite but unable to fix the problems. They were always confident the problems were fixed but every time we went away we had the same problems and always advised us to "bring it" in but when you are 200 miles away with your family on the start of a break with no fridge or hot water this does not appear to be very helpful and to the suggestion that I call someone out and Cranham reimburse me, i.e., to get the fridge working, they refused and said the problems were with Thetford and not with them. I and my family are away at the moment and I have to say that after this last time of taking our van back to them, touch wood everthing is working fine.
