Well i am off to Loch Lomond in two weeks and i would not leave home without it! As they say, or some one does. I can tell you it is very comforting to know i will have the back up of Green Flag if i get stuck in the highlands!

with regards togetting home if our car or caravan goes wrong. Our car is a mobility car and as such we are covered by the RAC, I got permission to get the tow bar fitted and asked if we were covered for the caravan with the RAC should we have a misshap only to be told NO, ok not a problem , I phoned the RAC and told them I was a motability member and that we had just bought our first tourer and would they help if we ever broke down!!!! If it was the car yes if it was the caravan NO so my question is will any breakdown service just cover us for the van? if the car breaks down they will tow the van as well but only in that scenario. many thanks

MMMm think you will be far pushed to find someone to do this and then someone else to do the other. My advice. Take out another cover that will do both. Cannot think of any other way.

Over the years we've had Britannia we've called them out quite a few times, ranging from key not turning in ignition (turned out to be worn key) to locking keys in car (very embarrassing, but common apparently!) a few home starts, a couple of recoveries, etc, etc. This is not just locally, but countrywide. On EVERY occasion they have come up trumps. They will try and get you back on your journey and if they can't they'll recover and take you home.....except on one occasion when home was much further away than our intended camping holiday location, so they took us there instead and then got our car fixed the next day. Cannot fault them. Can't compare them with anyone else as I'm not even going to consider switching.

But regardless of who you use, for peace of mind it pays to have a recovery service. Having had a puncture on the motorway, with my 5 year old son and dog with me, I felt very vulnerable and would have hated having to try and sort out alternative arrangements.

One of the RAC suggestions to me was we will recover your car and you get someone to tow your Caravan home for you we dont know anyone that tows if i did i would have to come home and then go straight back again to get the Caravan they could have easily stopped at the site hitched the Caravan on the back and all would have been good but that would mean helping someone out wouldn't it

I think you may have to bite the bullet and pay for a seperate recovery service such as RAC arrival or greenflag etc for your peace of mind.

In the end its only about another £2 per week and I certainly would not trust to luck.

BTW If you are with the c+cc why not phone rac and quote your number and ask if you can pay a top up premium to upgrade to arrival.

Thanks for all your replys, I looked into it a bit more as with our Bank acc we get free breakdown cover with greenflag, well i phoned them and asked if our caravan was covered only to be told they no longer worked for our Bank (Barclays) so i phoned the bank and was told oh we changed that Last year!!! and yep you guessed it,,, they changed to the RAC but If the van breaks down i call a special RAC number and tell them i'm an account holder plus and I'm covered as long as our van is under 3.3 ton and does'nt excede 25' long and 7' 6'' wide,plus were covered for european travel as well so now we carry 1 rac number for the car and 1 for the caravan but at least we can go away knowing were covered. job done. thanks again. I have Mayday Greenflag through the CC. I have used it umpteen times, it covers me for any vehicle I am in AND the caravan. I went to Vfestival last year in my campervan and had tyre trouble, the steering was all over the place and I didnt feel safe driving back to Cumbria from Staffordshire. I rang Green Flag and they said that my cover had lapsed and they would come out but I would have to pay a £40 call out fee AND my renewal fee!! As I was in desperate need I agreed BUT when I gave them my account number they said they had no record of me!! At this point I was VERY p***ed off ( having a weekend of copius amounts of alcohol and hardly any sleep at a music festival doesnt do you much good with a long drive home ahead!!) I started arguing with him that I had cover for the last 2 year and was saying'YES I have got it Mayday through the Caravan Club!! Then he said ok I will have to put you on to someone else!! He did and the kind lady took my credit card details off me and renewed my cover there and then with no need for a call out charge. A mechanic was out in 20 mins gave the van a thorough going over and I was on my way. The thing is I was so glad it was through the CC or I would have actually had to pay the call out fee!! Any other customer WOULD have had it to pay. I have used them lots and a local firm works for them so I wouldnt change them.

Had a quote today off the RAC for £78 (if i remeber correctly) through the Camping & Caravan Club. This includes taking you, your car and van to your holiday destination or back home, the car to a garage and if fixed back to you at the site. If it can't be fixed they will then collect you, your car and van and take you back home again at the end of your holiday!

Also if you have an accident they will recover you at no extra cost, most charge an extra £125 for this service according to the guy at the RAC. If you think this sounds good you also get 15% off next year if still in the C&CC plus money back if you don't use them!

Is this to good to be true?

Jut got my RAC, the arrival one, Ive never been without some type of cover, I hae had RAC before, then the AA the last couple of years I have had it with my insurance, buy seeing as I now have a scooter (well I will do when the insurance pays out from the last one!!) and they have changed the T&C so they wont recover a caravan anymore then RAC came in!

HI Grumbleflick, If you have a Barclays Additions + account you get Free RAC cover for car and caravan, free world wide travel insurance for all the family, free key fobs that help return your keys if lost and someone honest puts them in the post!!1n free legal advice, acfcidental death insurance plus a couple of other things. ok theres a monthly fee but in the long run it saves us quite a bit. Hiya grumblflick, like I said you pay an acc fee but when you weigh up what it cost for roadside assist, hol insurance and the other bits you do save money in the long run.cheers Bill
