I have an Apache Normandy awning, came with our new van. I'd like to add an annexe to store the kids in, but I don't know what would fit & what wouldn't. Reading some of the posts here, annexes aren't 'universal' despite some being sold as such. Any ideas of how you measure & decide if a particular annexe would fit? What about different zips? I have emailed Cabanon, but no reply as yet, after several days.
Really appreciate all the help I've found on this site. Thanks everyone.

Hi

Annexes are usually not just manufacturer-specific, but are often model and occasionally even year-specific too!

Some awnings can have an annex fitted at either end and some can only have them fitted at one end.

You can buy generic 'universal' annexes, but they don't have matching zips and I don't think you can expect them to be as weatherproof or durable as the awning manufacturers' branded ones.

Unfortunately, the branded ones are very expensive to buy new and it can be a bit of a nightmare trying to find the right one second-hand - particularly since demand for them is very high.

A cheap alternative, if you have the space, is to hang an inner-bedroom in the main awning.

Another solution would be to sell your Apache on and buy another second hand awning to fit your van, which already has an additional annex.

We bought our annex second hand, but from a dealer.   We asked our caravan dealer to tell us when he received the right model annex in with a part-ex van.  Within a week he had two to choose from and we examined them both and purchased the best condition one.  This way, we an assurance that they were selling us the right one to fit, or we could return it.

I hope this helps.

It is VERY unlikely that you will find an annexe interchangeable with one of another make, and annexes of the same manufacturer can differ from model year.  For example, I once sold a Trio Mexico annexe to someone who also had a Trio Mexico awning, but they had different lengths for the zipped panels, so would not fit.

Bertie.

Sorry cant help re the annex as I was wondering along the same line.

But instead of going down this route why not just -STORE THE KIDS - at home. I assum You ment to store your kit mind you times storing the kids seems like a better idea

No Fenn Dog, I meant store the kids! Can't leave them at home, they refuse. Camping is just too much fun to miss - you'd think they'd have grown out of it at 33 & 35, wouldn't you? (Only joking!)

Thanks Ulti-Mates & The 2 Tops; that's just the information I was looking for & with some good advice too. I'm much obliged.

I did wonder

As much as my 2 love camping for some reason its me nagging to go at the moment I think its because they have new bikes and we have no way of transporting them as well at the moment. But I sure I will get my own way if I stamp my feet hard enoughh

For anyone taking kids' bikes to campsites I would advise, if they use them on site, to make sure that they are careful, and that the 5 mph rule also equally applies to kids' bikes.

Apart from injuring themselves, bikes have lots of pokey-out bits that can do a lot of harm to the recipient of a collision.  And the resultant force can also do extreme damage to an elderly person.

Enjoy your own holiday to the full, but don't wreck it for others in the process.

Bertie.

We have to a universal annexe made by Blue diamond and last year it withstood the torrential rain in Anglesey for a week and step son (15) was nice and dry.  It leaked in by the caravan slightly but not into the annexe

This year new van and new awning so we bought an annexe that fits however, my parents have stolen the universal one from us to put on their tent so mum Aunt (53) can stay in it!

Universal ones are not an exact match but they are pretty good.
