We were a bit iffy about having had to book a hardstanding pitch for our hols last year as our experience of them in the past hadn't been an overall pleasant thing BUT.......having tried one at Tregarton Park last year, we loved it! We booked another one for this year, (we're here as I type), and still use our BG and while this holiday has had more than it's fair share of wet stuff, (deluge more like), we've had no mud brought into the tin tent even with pooch and his soggy paws. By the time he's reached the tin tent the mud from the rest of the camp has pretty much been wiped off by the gravel on the hardstanding and the BG in the awning.
Have to say though if we'd been on Pentewan on a beach front pitch/premier pitch this soggy summer, we still wouldn't have put a tarp or anything similar down UNDER the BG as they're pretty strict about those pitches and only using BG on them. Would've hated to have been kicked off being found out of using clear polythene underneath. We only get one holiday each year and it's precious so we try to obey each sites rules.
We've often laughed at how the 'carpet' in the awning seems to need mowing when we've used our BG on grass pitches. Kinda love that grassy feeling underfoot though when it's sprung through the holes.
This said though, I reckon it's really up to each individual as to whether or not they want to flout site rules to ensure a drier more comfortable holiday or.......... not.
