SO.
THIS will be what you are looking for. basically a retro-fit timer, it will stop the pump running after a pre-set amount of time, thus stopping the pump running dry.
It,s called pump saver, i,ve got one fitted good piece of kit you can set it for 1 minute up to 11minutes.
