Hi folks,

Judith and I have tonight just collected our first caravan in 35 years,

We are just about to go away for a few nights, and whilst we were talking about what we needed to take and  how much caravans have changed since our last old wooden Eccles 22 feet long barn on wheels,

Our thoughts went back to our first trip to Sandy Bay in Northumberland.

We took our 3 children aged 3-4 and 5 years.

At that time the site had only just opened and was just a grass field with one other caravan on it,

On our second night there  our friends John and Christine came to stay.

Judith and I had been using the end bedroom but gave it up to our guests.

At about 10 pm we decided to go to bed so John and Christine went for a last walk before turning in.

I had just got into bed when Judith asked if I had had got a clean shirt for the morning.

I hadnt so jumped out of bed and ran to the bedroom to get one,

As I was passing the caravan door the handle started to open so I grabbed it but just then the door was pulled open and I was pulled with it.

I was left hanging onto the door frame with my right hand, holding the wide open door with my left,

My right foot was inside the van and my left one in mid air suspending me in full stretch.

Unfortunately I was naked because that is the way I always slept

It was pitch black outside and the inside caravan lights behind me was the only illumination

John and Christine had cut short their walk because it was too cold

John was pulling the door open and when he saw me he said ' Jesus Christ'

Christine said she hadnt seen a thing but John replied that he had.

We didnt get much sleep tat night because we couldnt stop giggling.

Well that was my first experience with a caravan.

Would love to hear about other folk's first

Regards,

George

We decided it would be good to bring a couple of our children's friends with us for our first caravan trip so there we were, five children, one dog, evening time, going dark, couldn't get the electrics to work, kids were bored and hungry and turned out only had porch awning when we had bought it with a full awning.  Anyway decided to go home and try again in the morning when hubby wasn't so grumpy, came back next morning everything worked fine, ended up having a lovely weekend.  Get away as often as we can now and thinking about upgrading again!!!!

Hi Ali, it just goes to show that if you persevere things tend to work out,

I have a feeling of impending disaster because I have just looked at the switches on the panel and its like star treck, apparently, there is hot air heating, hot water  and a fancy sat dish,

There is a very good chance that I will scald the sausages and burn my face shaving.

I can mend a fuse and I have an old 1932 morris minor, but the complexity of a modern caravan is bewildering, bring back the gas mantles and parrafin stoves, I can handle those,

Regards to all,

George
