My husband walked out on us recently and I am ashamed to say that I need help with the caravan as I haven''t taken as much notice as I should have done and have no idea where to begin hitching up to the car. I have towed before so it's not the actual towing that is the problem, I just don't know how to get the caravan ready to be moved. I know the weights/load and everything are OK as they are.

I need to move the caravan off of the drive & to my parents house to make way for a skip which is coming early tomorrow morning.

There is an enduro power mover fitted - but again - I don't know how to use it!

Do I need to charge the caravan battery first? or did my husband used to connect the caravan to the mains purely to cool the fridge prior to travelling? Anyhow, I have connected it to the mains but will a 3 or 4 hour charge be enough to get the mover going? or should it hold enough charge as it is?

I know I must remove the wheel lock, hitch lock and wind up the corner steadies. I also have to engage the mover but am unsure how I know when I have wound it onto the van wheels enough - can I do any damage winding it too far? I noticed there is a red plastic key type thing hanging up in the battery compartment - presumably for the mover - what do I do with this?

Sorry to sound such a bimbo - I really wish I had paid more attention now but I didn't think I would be having to do this on my own.

Had better add that I can't push the caravan off of the drive as it is on a slope & will run away from me. I can't tow it off either as it is kept with the hitch facing the house.

I hope someone can give me some pointers - thanks for looking.

Sorry to hear about OH.  Clicky here to read the mover manual, its quite easy to do.  If you need help and are not too far from me i can pop round today, send me your email address and i'll get in touch.

Once you connect to mains, I would switch off the fridge if you are not actually going to use it.  Make sure the battery charger is turned on.

And before engaging the mover I would wind up the legs.

Thank you. Everyone here is so kind - I knew I'd get the advice I needed. The caravan is now moved - not to my parents as planned - as managed to make room for the skip without moving it away completely. My Dad came up and did the hard work, as I have not long come out of hospital - I just worked the remote control. Never-the-less, I now know how to move the caravan so I am one step closer to actually taking it away myself with the kids, until it has to be sold  :-(

I hope you might be able to keep your van I think it will be a good retreat if you can.

I would love to keep the caravan, but at the moment I don't even know if we will be able to stay in the house & if we do end up moving/homeless, I will not necessarily have anywhere to keep a caravan. I still have a tent though, so provided I can keep hold of that we will still have some form of a camping holiday, all things being well. Whatever happens I have booked to go to Bashley for the Fireworks and Farylights weekend in November so I determined to keep hold of the caravan until then, so the children don't miss out as they loved it last year.
