We went to the Forestry Commission site at Beddgelert about three years ago and it was brilliant. I was surprised how many people were there. Nice walk into the village and a couple of the pubs were open Christmas Day.

This brings back memories; In the 1950's for several years we went to a pub near Dovedale and Thorpe Cloud for xmas. there were about 6 caravans and we all parked in the grounds of the pub. Hired their function room for the whole of xmas and we had a terrific time. Even Santa turned up..
This was before blown air heating, before EHU even before 12V. It was gas lights and no hot water (only the kettle)
BRRR sounds chilly now to think about it.
Just remembered the name of the pub it was the Dog and Partridge
For several years we attended Christmas rallies organised by our local Caravan Club centre. They were all superb. Eventually we did Christmas and new year at one bash. Good food , good company, no drink drive problems and the kids were well catered for.Can highly recommend these rallies.
Hi there .. hands up .. we have and thoroughly enjoyed it. If you want to get away from it all .. its great and you wont be the only ones. We went to the Woodlands Caravan Park in Lincolnshire and enjoyed every minute of it. They have a restaurant on site too, if you dont feel like cooking!!
We're thinking of doing it this Xmas. I don't usually enjoy Xmas - too much keeping others happy and visiting relatives etc so being away in the 'van is looking like an attractive alternative .
Hubby works shifts so we'd be looking to travel Xmas eve and probably spend 4 or 5 nights away depending on whether I can get some time off.
We're looking at Setthorns in the New Forest which is also quite close to the coast.

I would love to go away for Christmas, but OH won't do it. We compromised last year and went on a rally for New Year. That was great. Not sure if we'll manage it this year though with it being mid week, I'll be working from christmas to new years eve so not likely to get more than a day and a half off over new year.
never been away at xmas but go away for new year We live and go away in Scotland and the only problem is getting booked as very few sites are open. We usually have to book by June at the latest to get what we want
