We've thought of buying a Twin axle caravan next but the site we use regularly needs the van levelling.....easy with one axle but how do you level a twin axle?
One wedge under one wheel but what do you do with the other wheel?
as rein99 says use the levellers, easy to use we have a twin axle and use them, have a small jack that came with the van jack the side up slightly, pop the levellers in and with a ratchet we lift them both up hubby does one i do the other,
never had any problems used them back in the ''summer'' in the grass that go very wet and had no problems at all, other than that use the wedges
I carry a few different thickness of boards long enough to fit both wheels on.Back onto pitch, pop spirt level across floor, choose nearest match of board to get level. Draw forward and you have the wheel marks for the correct positioning of board.
depends on how much i need to lift the van , i normally squares of about 9''x9'' marine ply and depending on height ,i place pieces in front of the wheel and pieces in between the wheels and just drive forward , or i jack the van up with my Kojack and just lower it down on the pieces of wood and leave the jack in place , just done that for 2 weeks in France , before jacking van up make sure there is a piece of ply wood underneath the jack
I like the look of that leveller. Whats the going rate for them ?
about 70 or more pound each from towsure, bit expensive, now , compare when we got ours a few lyears ago, so shop around at the moment there are quite a few on ebay at the moment and thats where we got our second one when we bought a twin axle recently and needed a second one, You will need to know the wheel size as there are two different sizes,
You could get two on there for nearly the price of one brand new one,
we like them and with hubbys ratchet thingy it makes life so much easier, we jack the van up slightly and it helps to position them and lever up, nice and solid no movement at all
When ever we are pitching people with twin axles on the meets we just ramp one wheel and leave the other one suspended in the air, there's really no need to ramp both wheels, and I always use short planks of wood to do the job. On our own van we use a ramp that a friend of ours made for us, it's 5 short lengths of floorboard held together on on end with a single long coach bolt going through all of them, you simply swing the individual boards out of the way until you get the right heigth
for theses levellers they always advise that you have two for a twin axle , personally i feel safer with both axles having a leveller on, surely its not doing the axles any good if you leave one suspended
We ended up paying over £1000 for a Kwikee Automatic Caravan levelling System. Best thing we ever spent our money on. I was dubious at first and did not want hubby spending so much. As we both have bad backs we decided that purchasing a good mover and the leveller makes our life so much easier when we are on site. This can also be moved onto your new van when you decide to upgrade.
