Hi all, Just got back into caravaning after 8 years, My vans got a 750 watt microwave in it.

Now yrs ago if you switched on something to high powered it'd blow the elec hook up, is it still the same ?. Have i got to get a lower wattage one or have the sites hook ups got more upto date. ?

Any help would be appriciated

We have a 700 watt and use it on most trips for something or other.

Up to now most of the sites we have used have been a minimum of 10amp and some have been 16 amp hookups.

We try and plan it that way!

If you are sensible ie. do not use the kettle, water heater, tv, microwave etc etc all at the same time, you should not have a problem.

Even if you do it is normally only a visit to the ehu point to reset the trip.
You will then be a little more careful next time especially if it is pouring with rain!

I usually worry about what has what rating, if it'll surge etc etc. For many years now we've used a normal domestic microwave, 700w or more and not experienced any problems.

We used our micowave in France on a 6 amp pitch with the water heater on but never used the kettle with the other 2 on as well.

we have a 700W domestic microwave which we use without problems.

You just have to be careful, if you use it in the awning with overnight condensation. The water from the condensation will cause problems with all electrical items. As ex campers, we used to have problems with CD players breaking when left out overnight

All our kit is domestic.850 watt microwave,kettle,toaster,slow cooker,sandwich toaster,fan heater,cold air oscillating fan,hair dryer,vacuum cleaner etc etc. We only use those with a heating element at one at a time. Haven't tripped a hookup yet.
