Hi,
I've been wanting to weigh my caravan fully loaded and have found a public weighbridge nearby which I would like to use. The problem is that it only measures a single axle at a time.  The question is: Do I need to weigh it by first resting the jockey wheel on the platform, then move the caravan forward to measure the weight at the axle, then add the 2 together to get the total weight. Or is it sufficient just to weigh it at the axle point? If so, Can I get away with just keeping it attached to the towcar?

Its just that this one was so easy to get to and its self-service so you can go anytime. Also, theres lots of space to get the caravan in and out. I took my last caravan to a metal merchants and it was ok - only problem was that I could not just drive-in and drive-out. Neeeed a tricky reversing manouvre and then unhitching. Not too much of a problem...it just seemed an easier option to use this one.
Is it not the case that the sum of the 2 weights would be the total laden weight?

No problem at all, jusd add the individual loads together. We have a Reich Caravan Weight Control and that's just what it does.

You'll find plenty of weighbridges around where you can weigh your caravan. Just go to your local quarry or gravel pit & ask the weighbridge operator if you can bring your caravan in & weigh it. As their work tends to tail off later in the day, I'd also ask what time of day might be best for you to bring the van in. If you want to, draw on the bridge with the caravan on, go & ask gross weight, unhitch caravan on the bridge & pull the car off, this'll give you the proper weight of your car at the same time.

Some will charge you if you want a ticket showing the weight, others might just turn a blind eye. You don't say where you are but, you might find a list of public weighbridges in your local authority booklet. Alternatively, calll the local quarry number & ask.
