Caravan Covers - We intend to use our van from time to time over the winter but wonder whether it is worth getting and using a cover for when it is stood on the drive.

What is the thinking behind this?

Is it worth it?

What type if any and what do we pay?

Hi.

I have a made to measure cover from Specialised Accesories.

Tel. No. 01943 864828.

Brilliant quality, really is made to measure, complete with hitch cover,

wheel covers, all straps, even a spare piece of material in case of mishaps.

I don't normally hype companies, but I will in this case, because the product

is that good.

Not easy to fit the first time because of the fit, but gets easier the more you do it,

And when you take it off, it will be as if you have only just cleaned your van,

and you will wonder why you never got one sooner.

Just make sure you get a good one, remember the saying "buy cheap buy

twice"????

Haven't got one but know people who speak very highly of Specialised Accessories.

Whatever you do don't put cling film on the windows in an effort to stop scratching!!

Hi.

The cover comes with padding to cover the windows if your van is kept

in really dusty conditions, I don't bother, and have never had any

problems.

Yep know that but there have been cases of people putting film on the windows and it causes them to crack - this is despite the fact nothing other than the cover is necessary.  Read about it several times in CC mag.

We have a Protec cover, I think it is much the same as the Specialised Accessories one, you must only put the cover on when the caravan is perfectly clean, otherwise any dirt or grit on the caravan when the cover is put on will damage it, so if you use it throughout the winter, will you have time to clean it each time before you put the cover on, if I was using the caravan I wouldn't bother with a cover, because it's not a 5 minute job getting it on and doing up all the straps.  We have just covered ours up, and it will stayed covered until New Year when we are away for a week, we will then bring it back clean it and recover it until Easter.

We have a specialized cover and found it fairly easy to put on. As Mrs Mop States though you need to have a clean van.

The quality is superb and for our Pageant Provence S6 it was good value at £350 as we live next to a wood and the van or anything else gets covered in sap, leaves etc. I cannot say how glad we are when you look at the caravan cover and see what a mess the top is.

Been using mine for 5 years and I rate it as equal to the motor mover we had fitted, as the 2 best items we bought for the van.I put it on after every trip and when I remove it the van is as clean and dry as when I put it on,  Some people say it erodes the surface of the caravan but I haven't noticed any wear and tear.  It keeps the caravan dry and must reduce the possibility of water ingress,  I bought mine from towsure and it will last for years.

There's a chemical reaction between the film and the plastic in the windows.
