Hi I have just bought a Lunar Lexon 2006 EB model and want some advice regarding TV systems. I will be going to use the van southern spain and am considering having a sat system installed which I guess means fixing to the body of the van. Has anyone had this done and can you recommend any good systems/installers to carry out the work. Also what kind of price range would I expect to pay.

Thanks

Colin

Hi cerbera, Having a sat system does'not necessarily mean you have to have the dish fitted to the van, in most cases you are better off having the dish on a tripod then you can move it around to get a good line of site to  the satellite clear of trees or buildings. If the dish is mounted on the roof of the van you could find yourself unable to get a good signal because of these type of obstructions.

Hi I saw this as an easier option as I thought it would be automatic with less hassle in setting up. I do se the advantages of a tripod mounted system I guess it saves any obstruction issues as you say and means less cost.

Thanks for the assistance.

Regards

Colin

Colin

As you are going to Spain most van based systems are unlikely to have a large enough dish. Ay least with the tripod system you can buy the right size dish. This website is useful. www.satelliteforcaravans.co.uk

This is my dish beside the hedge. I have it secured with wingnuts so it comes apart easily. Use the dishpointer site for anywhere in the world to give you the direction of satellite you require, and use a compass. I have never used a sat finder yet. The tripod is a camera tripod which you can get in the larger Tesco stores for £10 and the only reason it is extended so high was to get a signal through a gap in the trees. This is what we used to watch the Olympics during breakfast whilst in the Vendee. The dish is a 60cm dish bought in B&Q with all the equipment needed (except the TV) to get all the Free To Air channels and radio stations. It cost £60 and then I bought extra cable for a tenner, so you dont need to spend big money. Lidle have an 80cm kit on sale at the moment which may do you in spain. You will find what size you will need on the link above to satellite for caravans. The trick is to set it up at hom first to get in the way of it without the stress of wasting hours in the sun on your holidays. Good luck.

To use a sat dish in southern Spain it will need to be at least 1.5 metre diameter,so consider all options as you will need somwhere to carry the dish
