Hi folks just a warning to remove your cassette toilet when you are storeing..The story is i got a phone call last week to remind me that my caravan storage fee's where due.so TODAY i went to pay and to check on the van and take the wheels off ready for winter, after paying my fee to the land owner and asking for the gate to be unlock i was asked how.s your van m8 ??? "ok i said why" did you not hear 16 van's where broken into and the cassette toilets and the water heater buner units stolen.yep mine was one off them, what got me most was this was done on the 9th september.nor the police or land owner and phoned me to let me now..four weeks ago arrrrrrr.iam getting my money back and moving the van..so please folks take your toilet cassette out.The low life scum have caused over £600 off damage to my van (forgot to renew my insurance ran out 6 weeks ago)
sorry to hear that.
at a guess he knew 16 vans had been robbed and knowing that if if rang you all up you all demand a refund and move else where and rightly so, cos now their business has a very bad rep and will be going down the pan hence no calls to limit the damage and talk.

know its too late foryourself but a bit of help to thers is to keep the blade open then unless they break in the cassette can not be removed from out side as it is locked in place
i warned about this three years ago i think, it was, someone had there fire bits removed and did not know until they tried to use it.i read it in one of the many magazines.not that i heed it myself.but this winter i will remove the toilet.opening the blade makes it hard to remove but not impossible as you could override the lip inside.check internet sales for 16 toilets and burners.
------------- the only silly question is the one you do not ask.
The toilet cassette seem a strange item to steal, there must be some very strange people out there!!
------------- Never argue with an idiot, they will bring you down to their level then beat you on experience.

A replacement costs about £90 so I suppose there is a market for them. The burner units (if its a Carver are about £119 so I guess the same applies. I hate to be suspicious but I would imagine the travelling fraternity may have something to do with these thefts

iv been looking on ebay and there is a lot off second hand carver burner units costing about £130 and £200 for the cassette.the scum are finding things at lot easy just by looking around on goggle earth, there they can look around the sites they are wanting to take from and can find easy ways in and out.just for the record the caravan site was just outside sc**thorpe.would love to catch them at it,but then again i would be the one who would end up in court and the low scum getting away with it :(
We.ve got ours on a storage site where the rottweiler has free reign between 7.30 pm and 7.30 am so hopefully he,ll have a word if the pikies are about !!
------------- Keep smiling, its later than you think !
Big Brain we`ve just booked some storage at the same place as you( I think ) we have a folding camper and are looking for a caravan.I wouldn`t like to bump into the Rottweiler he looks a grumpy devil.
I'm reopening this thread as I have a bit of an update. I know that the toilet cassettes are being stolen and sold for about £40 on e-bay. The seller I know about for sure, an acquaintance was the victim (and the buyer but didn't want to run the risk of reprisals so didn't take it further) is based in Nottingham and has a female sellers name. She sells quite a few, one just this month. Alarmingly really, as of March 29th 2010, she has 100% feedback. The police are aware of her and are "keeping an eye on her" apparently. Its such a shame that the minority of sellers make it hugely necessary to check the origins, as best you can, of items for sale. E-bay will not allow anyone but the police to advise them that property they are advertising is/was/could be stolen.
