I am surprised you managed to book a weekend at Chatsworth Park during the summer as this site has been booked up for ages at the weekends. You were very lucky you must have got a cancellation.

Have you tried to book Rowntree Park in York? I was never able to book it, because I want to stay longer than 4 days and the weekends seem to be permanently booked.

Looking at the last post, it looks that way but we managed York twice last year, Feb and July.

We have just been to Southport CC Site Sun /Monday nights.

It as been showing full on line for ages so I rang the site 2weeks ago.

Wanted to go Sat/Sun No Pitches,so I asked for Sun/Mon only Monday available. That was no use to me. Rang last Wednesday  still no Joy, rang Thursday Pitch available Sun/Mon so took that.

Sunday Night counted 5 empty pitches, so with ours that makes at least 6 pitches had either been cancelled or no shows in the last 3 days. Some of these will have been booked in December stopping folk from booking a weeks holiday.

I feel there should be a minimum booking deposit of £20 for each booking,if you cancel at say 48 hours notice it could be carried forward for a further booking.

Folk who really intend to honour their bookings should have no problem with this, but it will deter the ones who just book loads of dates with no intension of going on them all. They just bookup incase they fancy going.

We were in the office at Rowntree park in July when some one phoned the site on Friday Morning to cancel the weekend and the warden said they have been sitting on that weekend since December.totally unfair on other members who mayhavve been trying to book.

i am in favour of a payment scheme that fines you from your card for no show without warning, unless there is a good reason.say £20.it would make you think twice about not going.there has been a lot of floods of late so that is a reason for not going for example.just my opinion mind.

still think this would work, have you thought some could be booking york say for four or five weekends in december and not showing to any?

the only silly question is the one you do not ask.

I think what might happen is that because people know the weekends get full quickly then they book just in case. I must admit I have done this for the popular sites on occasion as we never know which weekends OH has off. He only has one weekend in four off. I  cancel in good time so that somebody else can take up the pitch. On one occasion, because of caravan problems at moment of setting off and all the hassle it entailed it was too late to ring the site by the time we had discovered the fault. We were going after work. The next morning I tried to ring the site first thing to apologise but couldn't get through.I felt so guilty when they rang me to ask if we were going as we had booked for longer than a weekend. The fault with the caravan meant it had to go in to have a repair done so we couldn't go at all.If we had had to pay a deposit in the first place then OK we would have lost it but at least the CC would have been compensated for the night lost.Unfortunately it would have been too late for the pitch to go to someone else. This was unfortunate. On occasions people can't go for similar reasons but there must be many who don't care and just don't turn up.These are the ones who are causing the problems. Perhaps something can be done to make it fair for everybody.
