You would not beleive the hassle of trying to sell my car it just won't sell, if I try and px it they are offering peanuts for it, ( blaming on the economic state at the moment ) saying cars are not selling now because people are skint, so I am just going to do this holiday with my Zafira and hopefully by next year will be better off and be able to trade up.

Everything sells at a price.  If people are buying private they expect to buy a lot cheaper than at a dealers because of lack of warranty and the risks involved.  I would imagine that car dealers are finding it hard to sell at the moment because of the economic climate.  On the plus side there should be bargains to be had when buying.

I couldn't sell my immaculate Primera T Spec either. One garage (Nissan) offered me £2,500 for it against an X Trail!! In the end the local Nissan garage offered me £4k against an X Trail that cost me £5,750. Could have got a much better deal privately/through auction on my purchase but had to go for a PX in the end.

Got free MOTs for life and 3 years' free servicing, as well as 12 months warranty as part of the deal though so not unhappy with the outcome.

As others have said it may be worth trying to sell it privately but price it competetively so it sells.

The upside of this is that if you haven't got a p/x you can turn the tables on the dealers regarding the economic downturn and get some great deals.

My I offer a word of caution please?

What year is your new Vectra? If it is an 05 or 55 plate there can be a problem with the swirl valves and the swirl valve actuators. This is all part of the inlet manifold assembly and if they start to play up, the ECU light comes on and the engine goes to emergency power ie half the normal output. Later engines have the modified inlet manifold fitted so the problem for them doesn't exist.

As this is an expensive business, Vauxhall Agents are under instructions to try everything else related to the induction side of the engine.

My 55 plate Vectra has had new injector switches, a new EGR valve and new injectors - none of which worked - before eventually having to replace the inlet manifold assembly. This was done last week and touch wood, everything now seems to be working OK.

Thankfully all this work was covered by the very excellent Vauxhall Manufacturers Warranty. I hate to think what all this experimentation would have cost me without it. But for me it was the sheer bloody frustration of continually having to take the car back for further work.

Apart from that I love my SRI 1.9 CDTI 150 Vectra and would be extremely hard pressed to get shot of it. It's a great tug with good mpg both solo and towing and great everyday car.

Vic

All retail car prices are dropping faster than the speed of light, trade in's prices then will drop just the same. Similarly, I've a mate who's selling his tourer to buy a static, he stands to lose £4000 on the tourer in a year, so I said hang on another year? no he says, the statics to much of a gift!!...talk about have your cake and eat it!!!!

I was looking at 8k diesel Mondeo's just six weeks ago that are now well less than 6k!! dealers with 'old' stock are really struggling to shift anything and still make a profit. The one that stuck me most though was an 06 V6 petrol Mondeo Estate GhiaX for just £2500!! even had a towbar fitted! this cost £20k+ new two years ago!!. With those saving then you don't have to worry about petrol prices or what the road tax might be...tempting?
