I got a Soneva cover about a month ago.

Thought it was great at first but then noticed that when it rained and a pool formed on the top of the cover that it seemed to go away far faster than if it was evaporating.

Went and checked inside the caravan, pulled back the roof light and lo and behold the top of the caravan was wet and the water was soaking through tthe cover.

Are these covers supposed to be waterproof? or are they only water resistant?

To be honest I don't know, but I would certainly not be happy with a cover that was not 100% waterproof. I can't see the point of having it otherwise. It would probably do more harm than good.

Those who sell these 'breathable' covers dont advertise the fact that they are not 'waterproof'. I suppose this is why some use tarpaulins. The problem is they so heavy.

hi some do

Caravan Covers Caravan Covers

High-quality, breathable, weather resistant caravan covers to fully protect your van when not in use. Note that this cover is not defined as waterPROOF, as a fully waterproof cover can lead to damp problems trapping moisture and condensation inside. The breathable nature of this cover ensures that moisture and condensation can escape from your caravan, keeping the interior, as well as the exterior, protected whilst your caravan is in storage.

  • Resistant to wind and rain, snow and ice, & sun and UV rays
  • Protects against dirt, tree sap, bird droppings and airborne/industrial pollutants.
  • Breathable & water-resistant fabric
  • Strong nylon securing straps with buckles
  • Double stitched seams & strong elasticated hem
  • Zipped flap for easy access when cover is fitted

To measure your caravan for a caravan cover, measure from the rearmost point of the outer body of the 'van to the point where the sloping front of the caravan meets the A-Frame.

No they are not waterproof. The caravan should be though!!!!

They are only intended to keep the leaves and muck off. If they were waterproof then the van would sweat underneath and you would have even more damp problems.

Thanks all.

I do understand a little better now and can see the logic of having them.

Doesnt help my problem though, having bought one so that my damp problem would dry out hoping to repair it before the 2009 season gets under way.

Oh well, no ones too old to learn.
