Returned Mid-week from a few days away on our 1st caravan holiday.Sucess and enjoyment all round, but not without some minor probs, first off we had no electric, down to my own iggnorance really, connected things up the wrong way around, attached plugs, removed plugs ,scratched head, shouted, cried, you know how it can be(i hope).Next my Mrs lights a fragrant candle .airfreshner thing, leaves it on the worktop,i dont realise moving stuff about, and manage to ignite a carrier bag and some cardboard, more shouting, crying(me not her) and finally my realisation that ,of course i was wrong.Bit more fun and games with the water system although that proved quite easy to sort out,and of course the obligatory downpour of rain on the first night, making a swamp outside the door,but....i am not dissuaded,i will carry on.Actually it was good fun and cant wait to go away again.

Hi Lee, sounds like you had fun, glad it hasnt put you off going again. Its not easy the first time trying to remember all the things you are told and what goes where, but it will get easier each time for you.

Hi Lee,well done to all its a learning on its own this life and when you get to know the, this & that`s, and the doe`s & dont`s,and the can & cant`s it will get a lot more enjoyable, and it was not the best time of year to have your time away in your new van,but I am sure you will get to love it more when the weather gets better in the comming year, but rearly happy you all had a great time.

Think this year is to follow old meet friends for 2014.
If you cant do someone a good turn, don`t do them a bad one,its nice to be nice you know, and little things mean much more later in life.

Still remember our first outing and vowing never to leave a rubbish bag outside at night again...Sneaking around the site at 6 am picking up the debris spread by seagulls once is enough.

Our first time was a bit like yours, with our hook-up cable having two male (or female I can't remember) ends.  Fortunately the side warden replaced one end for us.  We had no water - hadn't worked out where to switch the pump on - and couldn't get the gas supply working.  We had a great time, though, and are still caravanning after 14 happy years of holidays and weekends away.

Had our van in July and we too had a few problems on our first and second outing similar to yours.  One was our not realising what to do and the other a loose connection to the fridge.  Got a bit strained in the van for half and hour or so but soon sorted it all out.  Lets hope that next summer will bring long hours of hot sunshine cos that makes everything easier.

Enjoy

Carol

Lee, it is a learning curve and you will get through it

my 1st trip was a doddle apart from flushing a wastemaster cap down the drain, 2nd one at easter freezing cold and the site leccy tripped and the actuating rod from the gas fire became detached so no gas heating, 3rd trip had a airlock in the gas line that took a bit of faffing about to sort. all okay now though

Hi Lee and welcome to the wonderful world of caravaning and all it's foibles  also to this fun site - most have done something similar and all have stories to tell.... at least we're not boring even if we've all got it wrong sometimes.

Happy caravanning and enjoy ......

Hi Lee,

Glad you enjoyed your first time out in your van. We went away for the first time in ours this weekend and we also had fun and games! I couldn't get the oven to ignite but didn't realize that the glass cover had to be in the up position on the cooker for it to work! At the time I was never going in the van again and wanted to send it back!

I'm really pleased to hear I'm not the only one, enjoy your van, Tracey

My first trip with OH was a total disaster.Me and the dog. What a disaster. Faulty towers eat your heart out. I did post a long story. suffice to say. Any trip after that was a doddle. I mean what else could go wrong because it all happened on the first trip.

I've never looked back. A steep learning curve. It all looks better with a glass of wine in hand.
