Hi All,

we've had a folding camper for the last three years and are moving over to a caravan in the New Year. As we keep our van down the drive we are planning on using it when we have friends and family staying over as we are a bit short on space in the house. My question is, is it possible to rig up an EHU lead that I can plug into the outside power socket to hook up to the van so there's mains power for TV, lights etc?? I know on site that the electric supply is 10-16 amps but not sure how to go on with home mains supply.

All you need is an adaptor which has normal 3 pin plug one end and blue EHU socket the other end.  So plug your EHU lead into your usual van socket and the other end into the adaptor.  It's only a foot or so long and costs around £10.  We always put the fridge on in the morning before we go off and use this.  I'm sure there's a proper name for the adaptor but it escapes me!

I fitted one of these onto the garage wall http://www.screwfix.com/prods/40962/Electrical/Industrial/240V/Industrial-Commando-Socket-K9201-BLU-16A-240V then just tapped into a socket in the garage, saves any faffing about with cables through letterboxes etc and is totally weatherproof, already had a rcd in the garage anyway to cover that socket. okay you have the rcd in the van

you can pull up to 13 amps from a household socket

Our van is storage, but we can use the eclectric there, which is handy.
