Looking for some advice please...we are thinking of taking our Bailey Ranger 550/6 up to the Cairngorms this winter to get some sledging in with the kids. Would appreciate any tips/ advice on getting the van ready to cope with proper winter conditions. The most obvious issue that we thought of is the water tank - is it better to try and insulate it or fit an on-board water tank? And any other advice you can add would be greatly appreciated.

the aquaroll is unlikely to freeze at night but the pump might, may be best to bring inside overnight.

make sure you are using propane (red bottles) as butane doesnt work as well at low temps

good sleeping kit is a must, dont rely on either electric or gas for warmth, good sleeping bags and wool blankets

Best thing we did to our Ranger was to make some backing to go behind the cushion uprights and bases, made from thin ply and wooden batterns (5mm thick) to keep them off the sides of the caravan. It stops them getting damp due to condensation. Have a look at some of the dearer caravans if yours hasn't got these pieces.

leave heating on overnight on a low setting, say 500.drys your mouth a bit but better than being cold all night.our pump froze last week even though it was insulated,so as said take it at night.you will need a supply of fresh water for brews and cleaning teeth.washing hands.ect.the water pipes and taps can freeze on site so a supply of water inside is a good move anyway. cover for aquaroll on ebay
