Polyplastic has made a selection of the most frequently-asked questions about the recall programme for you.
Why is the recall necessary?
It has become clear that the bond between the outer and inner panes can become detached and under certain circumstances an effective bond between the silk screen print and the edge of the window can no longer be guaranteed. In order to prevent danger to other drivers as a result of window panes becoming detached, we have decided to carry out this recall as a preventive measure.
What does the recall mean for my caravan or camper?
The inner and outer pane on your windows will be mechanically attached to each other. This will be done using a specially developed screw connector which permanently secures the two panes. The colour of the coupling is matched to the colour of the decorative silk screen printed surround around your windows. On the outside, a grey plastic cover will be visible in each corner (see photo). This screw connection is not visible from the inside of the window is closed.
Do all my windows have to be repaired?
Your dealer can explain which windows do or do not need to be repaired. This has to do with the type of window and the production date. For example, toilet or built-in windows will not need top be repaired.
I can't see any obvious signs that my windows are becoming detached. Do I still have to have my windows repaired?
Yes, you will still need to go to your Bürstner dealer. The repair is preventative.
How long will it take for the dealer to do the repair work?
It should be possible for the repair to be done while you wait. The repair process has been designed so that the necessary work can be done quickly. In this way we limit any inconvenience. You will of course need to make an appointment with your Bürstner-dealer first. If you make an appointment first, the repair should take about an hour.
I would prefer new windows rather than a repair. Is that possible?
Polyplastic is meeting its legal requirements with this repair. You have no legal entitlement to new windows. However Polyplastic is offering the opportunity to have new windows installed for a significantly reduced price.
Is there anything I should watch out for until my windows have been repaired?
We would expressly advise that you attach the windows of your caravan with strong adhesive tape before venturing onto the road.
Are the relevant inspection authorities aware of this safety campaign?
Yes. Yes it has been agreed with the Federal Motor Vehicle Agency (Kraftfahrt-Bundesamt, KBA), and they have informed all the European Authorities.
My current windows have a light grey rim around them. Are the new windows supplied with the same light grey rim?
No, the new windows are supplied with a dark grey metallic grid print with colour code 90.62.
Do the dark windows also have a decorative surround?
No, windows with Privacy Grey acrylic colour code 95.00 do not have a decorative surround. The exclusive design makes this unnecessary.
